1 The agony of choice in dermatophyte diagnostics—performance of different molecular tests and culture in the detection of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton interdigitale  C. Kupsch, T. Ohst, F. 2 Fig. 1 Dermatophyte positive samples detected with one or more of the four molecular methods and culture. Asterisks indicate significant differences to all other methods (p <0.001 in a Chi-square test). 3 Fig. 2 Dermatophyte positive samples detected with two DNA extraction methods. In all, 375 specimens were separated into two batches: 100 samples were DNA-extracted using the QIAamp DNA Mini kit, whereas the DNA of 275 samples was isolated with the Illustra genomic DNA extraction kit and processed with qRT-PCR, ITS-ELISA and MS-ELISA. For TI-ELISA both batches of samples were DNA-extracted with the QIAamp DNA Mini kit.
