4 FILM EDUCATION IN SODANKYLÄ: BASIC FACTS the project is coordinated by the municipality of Sodankylä aims to improve the status of film education in curricular structures funded by European Social Funds, Ministry of Education and municipality of Sodankylä budget 2004-2006: 192 867 EU 65,6 % Ministry of Education14,2 % Municipality of Sodankylä20,2 % 1.6.2004 – 31.5.2006

5 GOALS to improve curricular structures to provide teacher training to create material for teaching film education to foster the status of the cinema as an art form

6 1. FILM EDUCATION ON SCHOOL LEVEL to watch and experience film to critically analyse and understand the language of the cinema to use moving image as a tool for self-expression to use moving image as teaching method to see film as an art form

7 2. TEACHER TRAINING digital video technology: camera and editing history of cinema film analysing introducing professional film makers film educational methods

8 STATISTICS over 80 training events 186 persons already participated in the project from all around Lapland 154 belong to school staff over 2400 people have attended the film screenings training for digital video camera: 57 teachers training for digital video editing: 70 teachers

9 FILM EDUCATION AT KITISENRANTA SCHOOL Comenius 1: School projects partnership schools from Poland, France, England and Italy aims to develop pedagogical methods and learning environments aims to transfer good practises, methods and materials Kitisenranta School is participating in two international film education projects during 2004-2007

10 FILM EDUCATION AT KITISENRANTA SCHOOL Comenius 3: Networks partnership schools and associations from Italy, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Netherlands, Romania and Ireland Aims: to communicate between pupils to develop the knowledge of European cinema to make own video films to analyse films

11 FILM EDUCATION AT KITISENRANTA SCHOOL 45 pupils study film education as voluntary subject classes for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade pupils also film projects on different school subjects (e.g.): religious classes history classes music classes

12 IMPACTS OF THE PROJECT Sodankylä profiles as a film oriented region teacher training project provides resources and materials for high quality film educational work also in the future outcomes of the project will work as examples to similar activities in Finland
