First of all we had to make a comfortable seating area. Then we collected dry sticks to make the fire.
Once we had organised the seating, we learnt how to move safely around the fire
Mr Nicholson showed us how to stack small dry sticks so that the air could circulate.
We all practised creating sparks to light a fire, using flint and a piece of metal.
It took a long time, but we got the fire going. Then we toasted marshmallows
Then we sat in our circle and used exciting language to describe what we could see.
Oliver What is Fire? I asked a boy who cannot see, What is fire like? Fire is orange like the sun, Flames burn the logs to bark. Fire is blazing, sizzling hot, That dances and prances, Like flying fairies. Hear the fire roaring and crackling, Like a monstrous, roaring dinosaur. It whispers through your ear. Fire burns big buildings so they are small. It melts leaves and toasts you, Like a piece of rubber. Fire, Fire, Keep away fire!
