SAVE ENERGY: This means you!
I. Abstract proposing a scheme that can conserve electricity and by following the proposed scheme – one can save electricity and by saving electricity, – one can reduce the energy costs of their households. The first method: o using a device that can save energy when simply plugged into an outlet. -Power Factor Correction Device (PFCD) increases power factor, by reducing the amount of reactive power that the load draws.
The second method following various steps or procedures, also taking account of the behaviour of the people in the household that can help in conserving energy. The proponents then proceeded in collecting data via survey to determine the high, medium and low class of our scheme. – After that, the proponents will record the energy consumption of the household of each member via meter readings for 5 consecutive days and then apply the second scheme and record again the energy consumption of the household of each member for 5 consecutive days.
II. Project & Its Scope Electricity has become a necessity in every household even in the slightest way. Electricity is needed for running various household appliances and also lighting the house. But electricity does not come cheap. Some families with meagre income have barely enough money to buy for their basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing. Also, in economically hard times, the effects of the rise in energy related costs such as electricity are placing an even greater burden on families whether they are in the high, medium or low class. Therefore, any means or ways in lessening the burden of their electricity bills is greatly welcomed by people.
Objective of the Project Our project aims to significantly lessen energy consumption by following any methods of our project saving scheme: Application of power-saving device called Power Factor Correction Device (PFCD) Application of several energy saving tips or acts We believe that by following any of the above methods, one can lessen energy consumption of their household(s).
Benefits of the Project The results of the study will bring the following benefits: Provide data that can convince people that by following the proposed methods can significantly lessen energy consumption of their household(s). Motivate people to further save on the usage of electricity because they can expect less burden in their electric bills which they can use their savings for their other needs or perhaps wants. When people follow the proposed scheme, a. they lessen energy consumption, therefore less burden in electric bills. b. they are helping in saving the resources of Earth because electricity is considered energy. c. they are helping the economy of their country.
III. Methodology The study is limited to four (4) households which belongs to members of our group. They recorded meter readings of their household for ten (10) days. There are two (2) groups of meter readings included in the study: the control group and the experimental group. The control group is the first 5 days wherein we did not apply the second method of our scheme. The experimental group is the next 5 days wherein we applied the second method of our scheme.
Data Gathering 1. We started with a survey on our subjects about their lifestyle so that we may have an overview on their average electric consumption of their household. This is how our survey looks like: 2. There will be two groups: the control group and the experimental group. The control group is the first 5 days wherein the subjects did not apply the energy saving tips or acts of our scheme and the experimental group is the next 5 days wherein the subjects applied the energy saving tips of our scheme for a total of 10 days.
3. The subjects applied the energy saving tips or acts as follows: a. The subjects must always turn their computers off when not in use. Also, the subjects will set the computer in sleep mode if idle and never use screensavers. b. The subjects muse use big appliances wisely meaning when to use, frequency of use, etc. c. The subjects must always unplug their appliances or devices when not in use to avoid "energy drips." d. The subjects must always keep the filters of their air conditioners clean. They must also not place any potential sources of heat such as lamps, computers and televisions near the airconditioning unit. Also, if their air conditioner has a timer, set to 2 or 3 hours before their "wake up time". And as much as possible, the subjects will use an electric fan as a way of cooling the room. e. The subjects must always turn off the lights when leaving a room.
4. The subjects will record their meter readings everyday.
Evaluation of the Scheme
