6 The ProjectWise Advantage
3/31/2017 …is a project team collaboration and work sharing platform for the design and construction of infrastructure projects while the work is in progress… …that provides scalable, industry-proven, interoperable engineering/design content management, flexible publishing, and dynamic review capabilities. Slide Purpose: To introduce ProjectWise as the solution to those challenges – as an ‘executive summary’ statement Presenting the ideas and terms to be more fully presented on following slides Talking Points: Essentially a rare case of ‘read the slide’ – with important word and idea groupings: ProjectWise V8i is a project team collaboration and work sharing platform for the design and construction of infrastructure projects that provides scalable, industry-proven, interoperable engineering content management flexible publishing and dynamic review capabilities (C) 2011 Bentley Systems, Inc.

7 Single Source of Truth “Federated” Project Data Efficiency
To reflect how inter-disciplinary project teams work, with each participant using their own applications and file formats in their own locations Word CAD Model PowerPoint Excel Project BIM Database CAD Drawing PDF Slide Purpose: To reinforce the ‘single source of truth’ and introduce ‘Federated’ project data Talking Points: Infrastructure project data is federated – reflecting the federated way in which interdisciplinary project teams work Each participant uses applications that are specific for their tasks and role, for example in the design and analysis of… Structural systems Roadways Site and civil work Water distribution P&IDs HVAC and MEP Design and so on (Feel free to use examples matching your audience) ProjectWise integrates with these applications, and their formats and provides a shared “Single Source of Truth” for interacting with project information A “federated” approach, unlike a “centralized” approach provides the speed and flexibility needed when working with sets of large and interrelated files and data that is federated across multiple sources and locations

9 Is This Your Situation Today?
FTP Site Network Drive Network Drive Network Drive Network Drive Share Point Site FTP Site Network Drive Many of us in the design industry are familiar with chaotic file sharing systems like this one. Talking Points: (A quick preface to next slide, as a build) Is your project information scattered across different places, in different systems, with redundant copies? Are you confident your team can get to the information you need quickly And that the information they get is the latest information, and is well coordinated with others? Network Drive

10 Is This Your Situation Today?
Distributed Staff Travel Missing Information = Errors FTP Site Network Drive Network Drive Network Drive Broken References Time Wasted Searching Network Drive Share Point Site Inconsistent Standards FTP Site Different Apps and Devices for Viewing Network Drive Large File Transfer Paper-Based Review Which leads to lost time, productivity and profits through: Talking Points: Do you have these kinds of problems? Wasting time getting to information Broken links and references Slow transfer of large files Losing feedback Missing or out of date information Inconsistent standards Unnecessary travel and shipping Needing different applications and devices to interact with information Etc (You do not need to match the exact ‘pains’ – feel free to verbally adjust to match what you know about your audience) Lost Feedback Manual Design Review Network Drive

ProjectWise - How it Works Integration Server Manages Central Files Core of ProjectWise “Brain” “Main” Office Texas “Regional” Office Michigan WAN So , before I explain exactly what happened, let’s define some common terms that I will use frequently during the presentation. The ProjectWise system consists of a main server, called the ProjectWise Integration Server, a client, called ProjectWise Explorer, and a database, that controls all the file permissions and transactions. Managed files are not stored in the database, they are maintained on file servers throughout your organization.

ProjectWise - How it Works ProjectWise Caching Server Serves File(s) from Office(s) to Office(s) Reduces/Eliminates Trips Across the WAN to Access Files Passive and Active Caching “Main” Office Texas “Regional” Office Los Angeles “Regional” Office Michigan WAN To help speed up access to files that may be stored in far away servers, the ProjectWise Caching server can be used to serve files between offices. This is an optional “add-on” to the ProjectWise installation.

24 Audit Trail Events ProjectWise Audit Trail
When was the file modified to be a Central file? Who has taken a local working copy of the Central file? Each synchronization with Central event Who? When? From what computer

25 Additional Features Delta File Transfer
Enables WAN team members to work at LAN-like speeds! Only transfers the changes to the file over the network Reduces the overall network traffic – benefits all network users Works from anywhere, no appliance needed Works for all ProjectWise users Revit workflows where DFT is used includes: Synchronize to Central Reload latest, Reloading changed linked files Subsequent file open (non-worksharing mode) Import\export

26 Additional Features Standards Management
Manage and access Blocks, Cells Revit families (RFA files) and Revit templates (RTE files) in and from ProjectWise Integrated search dialog in the load family process Controlled access to standard details Thumbnails Access Control

30 ProjectWise Web Part Web Access for Consultants, Project Manager, Contractors and Owners

31 ProjectWise Web Part – SharePoint Integration
Web Access for Consultants, Project Manager, Contractors and Owners

32 ProjectWise Managed Content Financials Project Schedule
With SharePoint we can present information – from multiple sources - to project teams in a single location. Think of this dashboard view as the “AEC Project Desktop” for your project. It provides a high-level, federated view for all relevant information. The view can be customizable for each project team member to make sure they see all that they need to see. [Click] In this example we can see ProjectWise managed content presented alongside additional [Click] financial and [Click] project schedule information which could very well be sourced from Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Project Server. Now if my focus is the engineering content managed by ProjectWise I can also choose to set up a page dedicated to that and nothing else.

33 Folder Structure Document List Document Properties
And here it is. [Click] On the left here I have my ProjectWise folder structure. [Click] To the right and at the top I have all documents within the folder I selected on the left. [Click] And beneath the documents list I can see the details or “document properties” of any one file. Here SharePoint is providing me with the same access to data and the same access to information about the data that I have within the ProjectWise desktop explorer application. But it doesn’t stop there. It gets better…

34 View CAD File I can click… [Click] …on any CAD file…

35 Controlled User Access
Now, we know that user needs differ from one team to another. Even sometimes within the same teams different users have different needs. Some users need full access to open and edit files, and save changes to files while others simply need to open, view, and print files. That’s why we created the ProjectWise Web View Server. [Click] Its sole purpose is to limit a user’s ability to change information while still enabling full access to search and navigate file and content lists and properties, AND publish information for other purposes.

36 Read-Only Document Access
So when you locate files through a browser that is connected to a Web View Server the options for interacting with a file are restricted.

37 ProjectWise Dynamic Composition Server
Produces Rich Renditions PDF and Raster Multiple Input Formats DGN, DWG, PDF, MS Office, Etc. Using Predefined Publishing Standards Presentation, Format, Filename, Destination Publish On-Demand Through ProjectWise Explorer Publish On-Schedule Keep Renditions Current

47 ProjectWise Web Server on Android Tablets
In SS4 we will also provide support for Android devices. In adition to what you’ve seen in previous iPad demo, Android devices also allow uploading data created using the device. This way it becomes very easy to do field inspections and upload data directly to a centralized storage. Let’s see how it look.s I log in, navigate to a specific folder, click upload and I’m presented with Android specific dialog allowing me to upload me: images right after I take them using the build in camera. I can also record and upload video clips, or go to the gallery and upload one of the existing images.
