Negative numbers. Negative numbers are the opposite of positive numbers
Addition means to put two things together.
If were adding numbers of opposite signs, we have to do the opposite operation – SUBTRACT. So… + does not always mean we get more.
Is the same as 6 – 2 Which is 4. If this is confusing, review the earlier lesson on adding integers.
And… guess what?
Its the opposite of adding. Yea, you know that. Lets know it *and* apply it.

If is the same as 6 -2, then… …. 6 – 2 is the same as , right? We just switched the order we said it in.
We can solve it by *adding* the *opposite.*
…. Change subtraction to addition… but its not quite that simple. My bank account would *love* it if I could do that. If I *just* change the minus sign to plus, Im doing the opposite of what Im supposed to do.
Adding the OPPOSITE -- change two things –- Then were back in balance, and doing what the problem says to do. (The people who say change subtraction to addition expect you to remember to *also* change the sign of the number youre subtracting.)
Thats right, the rules havent changed. But we can think of this in a more advanced way – 6 – 2 = , which of course = 4 because same sign, add and keep different sign subtract! Keep the sign of the bigger number, Then youll be exact!

Opposites are … you know, not the same. Opposite. Backwards is not forwards. Theyre opposite. HOWEVER, its not like theyre just different, like cherry and pineapple. … if you turn around… and turn around again… youre going the same direction again. Yes is the opposite of no… but if you *refuse* to say *no* … then havent you really said yes?

If the new problems look like this, you have 100 % A – – –410 + –5
6 + –5= = –3= = –4= –5 =5
Yes, you already knew 6 – 5 was one. Next movie will explain how to solve 5 – 6. Maybe you can figure it out for yourself
