Contd.…. It is estimated that around 18 – 20 % of any population is infertile/ Sub fertile throughout the World. Male Infertility is on the rise over the past 5 decades, with a gradual decline in the Sperm Count. 40% of the infertility problems are male oriented and the remaining 60% accounts to female partner and several other disorders. More than 4 million babies are born globally through Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) The success rate of ART is around 30 - 35% globally. However, comparatively it is quite low in India because of untrained/ unqualified personnel involved in ART.

According to National data of Assisted Reproduction in India (NARI), 2001-2005, published by ISAR (The Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction), a large number of IVF pregnancies (more than 40% ) end up in miscarriages as compared to 5% in Western countries. At present, more than 500 IVF Centres (most of them private except AIIMS) are functioning in India and there are only around 100 qualified and well experienced Embryologists in our Country. To bridge the gap it is very much essential to provide the country a trained human resource through this innovative course
