The model of ‘Joyful Learning’ developed and implemented at Vishwakarma Institutes. Has proved to be of high worth in the field of engineering study. ‘Joyful Learning’ seamlessly integrates facets of intellectual, social, spiritual and physical personality development. It involves elective courses known as Professional Development and General Proficiency. Courses offered under the first elective, Professional Development, aims at developing skill sets complementary to the core technical inputs that are demanded by the industry. The second elective, General Proficiency, aims at nurturing health awareness that includes yoga, pursuing hobbies and developing ability to work in a group/team. A paper on ‘Joyful Learning’ was presented at International Conference on Engineering Education, ICEE, in 2008 at Budapest, Hungary. ‘Joyful Learning’ has been truly instrumental in enhancing engineering curriculum, with relevant and need based strategies, juxtaposed with stress-free solutions that ease the academic rigour of students. ‘JOYFUL LEARNING’ “The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence.” Rabindranath Tagore
