61th Conference – Elsinore, Denmark, 6-8 March 2017 Report status and plans of nautical publications Official S57-data to the leisure craft market Marine Information Overlays (MIO) RENC operations Revision of NHC Statutes Next meeting Arkö island, Sweden in April 2018 Meeting and Agenda Items since IRCC8

4 Key Achievements of the NHC for IRCC9
Finland-Sweden Pilot project on harmonisation of depth presentation in ENCs and paper charts Arranged workshops annually to exchange knowledge and share experience regarding Multibeam technologies and Validation of Multibeam data. Arranged workshops biannually to exchange knowledge and share experience regarding production of Nautical Chart Products. Key Achievements of the NHC for IRCC9

5 Key Achievements of the NHC for IRCC9, cont.
Official S57-data to the leisure craft market The leisure craft market generally use digital chart products, with derived cartographic expressions without frequent updating. It is difficult to get relevant information about requirements. If leisure boat users want to use official electronic charts for their navigation, they have to use official ENCs. Is there a need to establish special rules or recommendations and is there a need for HOs to establish ENC services? A new ENC service could be seen as an offer/possibility to use official electronic charts for their navigation and not as a requirement. The service could also be seen as an official alternative to paper charts. The use of ECS system could possibly fulfil the requirement. Key Achievements of the NHC for IRCC9, cont.

6 Difficulties encountered and challenges yet to be addressed
The NHC MS agreed to review the critical competence needed within each NHC HO and investigate the possibility of arranging common training courses. To continue to arrange Hydrographic Survey Technologies workshops and to add Lidar and other technologies to the agenda for the workshops. To continue the discussions regarding the use and impacts of Admiralty Information Overlays (AIO) in the Nordic waters which already have full coverage of P-/T- notices. (IRCC9-07D4) Within the Nautical Cartography Working Group investigate the possibilities and challenges towards a simplified paper chart process. Difficulties encountered and challenges yet to be addressed Punkt 4 referred to the Nautical Chart WG through our representatives

7 Actions required of IRCC9
IRCC9 is invited to note this report. It is proposed that IRCC9 discuss how IHO/IRCC/HO MS should approach the topic about official electronic charts for the leisure craft market e.g. the need for establishing rules or recommendations for ENC services and if there is a need to establish an IHO/IRCC WG to investigate the topic more detailed. Actions required of IRCC9
