2 Background & Proposal GPS data as key theme in global measurement initiatives Measuring progress of society, AU commitments, etc. Need for Africa sensitive GPS data planning, monitoring policies, early warning, voice Current situation Lack of country level data Proliferation of international indices But governance data=public good (national sovereignty) Proposal Harmonize and institutionalize GPS statistics under NSOs coordination (with dedicated GPS units within NSOs)
