Bradley’s First Day Written By Former Student

2 “ Wake up Bradley! It’s your first day of
school.” His mother said, pulling the covers off of him.

3 He moaned, and groaned, and pulled the covers back over his
head. “I’m not going!” Bradley whined.

4 He did not want to go. It wasn’t because he did not want to learn. He was just afraid!! There would be new people, and a new place, and he just did not know what to expect!

5 What if his teacher was mean?!

6 What if no one liked him?!

7 He did not want to go and find out!

8 “Don’t be silly, Bradley,
of course you are! Now hurry up and get dressed. You don’t want to be late on your first day.” Then she hurried out of the room.

9 I do not want to go at all! thought
Bradley. Then he crawled out of bed wishing that there was no such thing as school!

10 When he and his mother arrived at the school, Bradley did not want to
get out of the car!!

11 “Do I have to go?!” Bradley whimpered. “Yes, darling, you do. Why, is something wrong?’’ “No,” Bradley said, “ I just don’t think I need to go. That’s all.”

12 His mother laughed, “Of course, you do!” she said. “Everyone needs
to go to school. Now hurry up. You don’t want to be late!”

13 So Bradley climbed out of the car and walked up the big, stone steps of Sunny Days Elementary School.

14 He came up to two, huge double doors. He turned to see if his
mother’s car was still there. If it was, maybe he could run back to it and beg her not to make him go! But, it was too late. She was already driving away.

15 Bradley turned back to the doors, took a deep breath, and walked inside. Everywhere he Looked, there were kids running around.

16 “Excuse me, young man,” said a deep voice behind him. Bradley turned Around to see a great, tall man!

17 “Where are you supposed to be?” “I…I am not sure,” Bradley
Mumbled. “It is my first day.” “I see,” the man chuckled, “Come with me.”

18 He led him down a long, bright hall filled with lots of doors. Then he led him to a classroom door and walked him in.

19 Inside, there were tables filled with other children. There was a
pretty woman standing in the front of the room. “May I help you?” the woman asked.

20

21 “Yes,” answered the great, tall man.
“This, here, is this young man’s first day.” And then he left Bradley standing there alone. “Well then,” said the pretty lady, “my name is Miss Johnson, and I will be your teacher. You should feel right at home here.”

22 This is everyone else’s first day too.” Bradley looked around at all
the other boys and girls. “Really?” he asked, “Just like me?” “Yes,” she smiled, “Why don’t you go have a seat, and we will continue.”

23 Bradley took a seat. For the rest of the day he had a blast! They learned how to write letters and what sounds to make with them.

24 They listened to a book at story time. And he even made new friends! At the end of the day, when it was time to leave, Bradley did not want to go!

25 He got in the car with his mother with a big smile on his face. “So,
how was your first day?” she asked. “Great!” Bradley shared. He looked back at the school as they drove away. School was really great! thought Bradley.
