The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures < ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE Working Group. September 2005 Introduction Beacon Measurement is used to measure for the presence of other BSSs through received Beacons or Probe Responses. Measuring device reports the detected BSSs to the requesting device according to the conditions set in the request. The option to measure Measurement Pilot frames offers faster passive measurement with lower power consumption. Simon Black et al, Nokia

Measurement Pilot frame has enough information to be useful
September 2005 Measurement Pilot frame has enough information to be useful Table k1—Measurement pilot frame body SSID field is not in the pilot frame Wildcard SSID must be used in Beacon Request when measuring pilot frames Simon Black et al, Nokia

Overview of the normative text changes (see 05/0948)
September 2005 Overview of the normative text changes (see 05/0948) Allow a new measurement mode ‘Passive Pilot’ Allows reporting of a Measurement Pilot frame if no Beacon, or Probe Response frames were measured in the Measurement Duration Change the Beacon Report to allow a Measurement Pilot frame to be reported Replace the separate fixed fields and reported elements with a simple frame body container - a good simplification anyway! Include a Reported Frame Type flag to indicate the report contents Allow an ‘STA Selected’ mode Measurement Mode selection is delegated to the measuring STA Measuring STA has the freedom to make the choice of measurement mode if the requesting STA has no preference (just wants the results!)
