When and why did the Germans move to the USA? Many Germans left Europe (1683-1983) in hope of a better life in the USA. In this early period, German immigrants came from the states of Pfalz, Baden Württenberg, Hessen and the bishoprics (Bistümer) Osnabrück, Münster and Mainz.
