1 TOTD “Do your daily habits match your expectations and goals?”

2 What is a goal? The object of a person’s ambition or effort.
An aim or desired result.

3 Why Set Goals? Long-term vision Motivation Organization Focus
Self-confidence

4 S.M.A.R.T. Goals Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Timely

5 Bad = non-S.M.A.R.T. vs. Good = S.M.A.R.T.
Specific Your goals must identify exactly what you want to accomplish in as specific terms as possible. Bad = non-S.M.A.R.T. vs. Good = S.M.A.R.T. Bad: I want to read a book. Good: I want to read all five Game of Thrones books.

6 Measurable “You can’t manage what you can’t measure.”
Choose a measurable result so there is no question if you achieve your goal or not. Bad: I want to read the GoT books at a good pace. Good: I want to read 30 pages a day.

7 Attainable Attainable/Achievable: Can you successfully reach the goal given available resources? Bad: I want to read all 5 GoT books in 2 hours. Good: I want to finish the Game of Thrones books in 6 months.

8 Relevant MAKE GOALS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU AND YOUR LIFESTYLE (Consistent with other goals and your passions). Bad: A goal of playing videos games in hopes of getting better grades. Good: A businessman earning their M.B.A. degree to move up the corporate ladder.

9 Timely Associate a date/“deadline” for goal so it is not unending.
Bad: I want to run a marathon. Good: I want to run a marathon by September 2017.

10 WRITE GOALS DOWN When you write something down, you are stating your intention and setting your goals in motion. Constant visual reminder

11 Review Goals Frequently
What’s the next step? Do I need to alter my goals? New ideas each time you review them.

12 Vary the type of Goals Financial Career Educational Physical Family
Etc.

13 Share Goals Selectively
Avoid sharing goals with anyone who is not committed to helping you achieve them. Sharing with outsiders vs. sharing with friends, family, teammates, etc. Talking sometimes becomes a substitute for doing.

14 REMINDERS Write down your goals and look at them often!
If you achieved your goals too easily, make your next goals harder. Failure to meet goals only matters if you don’t learn something from your mistakes. Goal setting is am important method of: * Deciding what’s important for you to achieve. * Motivating yourself. * Building self-confidence.

15 TRUST THE PROCESS
