6 1 John 2: (NET Bible) 3 Now by this we know that we have come to know God: if we keep his commandments. 4 The one who says “I have come to know God” and yet does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person. 5 But whoever obeys his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him. 6 The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.

7 How do you know that you know God?
Keep His Commandments How do you know that you know God?

8 Keep His Commandments John brings the genuineness of our salvation under examination.

9 We are saved… by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

Keep His Commandments “Faith is the inspiration of works, and works are the proof of faith.” –Adamson

11 Keep His Commandments “If the deeds of faith are absent from the life of the believer, one can only determine that his or her faith itself is not genuine.” –Richardson

12 “Faith alone justifies, but the faith which justifies is not alone.”

Love for Christians is evidence of faith

15 1 John 2: (NET Bible) 7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have already heard. 8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.

16 1 John 2: (NET Bible) 9 The one who says he is in the light but still hates his fellow Christian is still in the darkness. 10 The one who loves his fellow Christian resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But the one who hates his fellow Christian is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

17 Keep His Commandments “Hate is the absence of the deeds of love. To walk in the light is to love one’s brother, and God’s love will express itself in concrete actions. If these are missing, it is not because love can be neutral or can exist unexpressed. Love unexpressed is not love at all. When it is absent, hate is present.” –Frank E. Gaebelein

19 John 13: (NET Bible) 34 “I give you a new commandment – to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples – if you have love for one another.”

20 John 15: (NET Bible) 9 “Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be complete. 12 My commandment is this – to love one another just as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this – that one lays down his life for his friends.”

21 Galatians 6:10 (NET Bible)
10 So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the family of faith.
