Associate in Arts & Sciences BAE Mathematics/Secondary (77 Credits) Mathematics Department College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Why become a secondary mathematics teacher? Teaching mathematics and statistics to secondary students allows you to make a difference in the lives of young people by empowering them to understand the world mathematically, use quantitative and statistical reasoning to make better decisions, and expand their opportunities to choose interesting careers. Student Learning Outcomes Students will develop: 1. Understanding of foundational content of modern mathematics and its applications. 2. A strong ability to reason mathematically and develop proofs with understanding. 3. The values, dispositions, and habits of mind of a community of mathematicians. 4. Understanding of mathematical learning progressions and connections within secondary mathematics. 5. Ability to critically read, analyze, evaluate, transform, and implement mathematics education literature. 6. A sensitivity and ability to respond to the mathematical thinking of secondary students. 7. Applications of pedagogical content knowledge for secondary mathematics in planning and teaching 8.
