What are the 3 major symbols of the section? Complete symbol chart defining and explaining the meaning. Who are the proles? How are they different from Winston? Turn in questions Objective- Students will learn to analyze a complex text through discussion.

3 Tuesday, October 21, 2014 Review for quiz.
Review major literary devices used in 1984

4 Wednesday, October 22, 2014 Quiz over Part One of 1984
Read chapter 1 of Part 2. Response question- Predict what will come of the relationship between Julia and Winston. Essay- Compare the proles to the modern American teenager. Homework- read chapters 2-3 Objective- Students will learn to compare todays teen to a prole in 1984 by writing an essay.

5 Thursday, October 23, 2014 Discuss chapters 2-3.
What do we learn about Julia? What do you think of Julia? In small groups, select a topic from the list. Plan a 5-10 minute speech persuading the class that the statement your group selected is true/false. Homework- read 4 Objective- Students will learn to prepare a persuasive speech.

6 Friday, October 24, 2014 Present speeches. Discuss chapter 4.
What surprises does Julia have for Winston this time? How is Winston feeling about the relationship? Why does Winston rent Charrington’s room? Who has the power in this relationship? Homework- Read 5 and 6 Objective- Students will analyze the actions of characters in a novel
