1 CORE KARES Lesson Plan August 5, 2016
In this lesson, students will be introduced to the Safford K-8 Mission Statement of our school and the PRIDE Matrix behavior chart in order to help them better achieve socially and academically towards these goals. You can project the Safford Mission Statement / PRIDE Matrix chart or print copies for each student or groups for the reflective activities in the next few slides.

2 Reflective Safford Mission Activities
Directions: Project the Safford Mission Statement or pass out a copy to each student or group for the reflective activities below. Reflective Activity 1: Students are to discuss either in groups or as a class what they understand of the mission statement with teacher facilitating key vocabulary words in red. Reflective Activity 2: Students can as a group or individually represent their understanding of the mission statement by drawing a picture, summarizing in words, paragraph or speaking out.

3 Safford Mission Statement
Our Mission Here at Safford: We learn and appreciate cultural perspectives by examining science, technology, history, language, music, and literature. We are active international citizens of this world. We make positive human connections through collaborative interactions. We show our care of each other, our environment and our future through engaging activities and critical thinking. We collaborate to solve problems while fostering a sense of community that extends out into Tucson and beyond.

4 Today we will briefly review our PRIDE matrix
Let’s begin with a quick review of the PRIDE matrix and what it means to you throughout our school. PRIDE stands for Principled, Respectful, Integrity, Do the Right Thing! and Excellence. PRIDE is important to our school because it creates a positive learning environment for all of us. This helps to ensure that YOU learn important skills that will make you successful in YOUR life! Using the acronym PRIDE, the chart shows our expected behaviors in the Classroom & Library, Playground & Field, Hallways, Cafeteria, Bathroom, Bus, and during Assemblies.

5

6 In each of the above seven locations, we can easily understand what the expected behaviors are by being Principled, Respectful, showing Integrity, Doing the Right Thing, and demonstrating Excellence. The matrix clearly shows us how to demonstrate each of these qualities in all seven areas across our campus. By consistently demonstrating these expected behaviors, we are showing our Husky PRIDE!

7 The following slides show some examples of expected behavior in different locations…
