1 Mueller Park Junior High Cheerleading Tryouts
Information Meeting

2 Tryouts are open to eligible 7th and 8th grade students at MPJH.
Students must have maintained a 3.0 GPA with no F’s for each of the three preceding terms prior to tryouts, and must maintain a 3.0 GPA with no F’s each term to remain a cheerleader. Determination of academic eligibility shall be made no later than the seventh calendar day following the last day of the grading period. Grade changes after this time cannot restore lost eligibility. 3 Eligibility- Citizenship
Students must not have received more than one U total and more than 2 N’s total during the three preceding terms prior to tryouts. If a U was received during the grading period prior to elections or tryouts, that U must be cleared before the first day of clinics. Determination of citizenship eligibility shall be made no later than the seventh calendar day following the last day of the grading period. Grade changes after this time cannot restore lost eligibility. Eligibility- Citizenship

4 Requirements Prior to Tryouts
There is a $5.00 fee to tryout, which covers snacks, tryout dance music and judges fees. You will be required to complete a tryout packet. The tryout packet includes a cover page, a tryout application form, and a tryout permission form. You will also be required to give your current 3rd term teachers (except for advisory teachers) a Teacher Evaluation Form. The tryout packet, teacher evaluation forms, and the $5.00 fee are due on Friday, April 14, by 3 pm. The fee is payable in the school office. Requirements Prior to Tryouts

5 Clinics Clinics are on April 24th, 25th, and 26th from 3:15 -5:00 pm.
Clinics are closed to the public, but parents may come at 4:50 pm to record the 9th grade cheerleaders doing the dance and cheer. Athletic clothes and shoes need to be worn to the clinics, and hair needs to be completely pulled back, with no jewelry. Clinics

6 Tryouts are on Friday, April 28, 2017. They start promptly at 3:00 pm.
Please be to the school 15 minutes early to stretch and warm up. Tryouts are closed to the public. Parents, family members, and friends are welcome to wait in the Den. On tryout day you need to wear black or navy blue bottoms, a white top, and athletic shoes. Hair needs to be completely pulled back, and bows are optional. Tryouts typically last between 2-3 hours depending on the number of girls trying out and the number of call backs that are done. Please bring water to stay hydrated. Tryouts

7 The tryout candidates will be asked to do the following in front of the judges:
Running Tumbling Standing Tumbling Jump Series School Song/Cheer Dance They will also be scored on their appearance and their rally. Teacher Evaluations are figured into the final score. Tryouts

8 There is not a minimum skill level required to tryout for cheerleading.
You should have a basic knowledge of cheer angles, jumps, kicks, and dance. There is not a minimum skill level required for tumbling. Both the tryout dance and the cheer have optional tumbling choreographed into them. Skill Level

9 As a team we want to become better
As a team we want to become better. We will be working with a cheer coach who will regularly come in to help the girls with cheer techniques. Opportunities outside of school: Going to a tumbling, dance, or cheer class. We have some information if you would like to do that. It’s important to continue to improve the skill level of the individual. Improving Skills

10 Commitments & Expectations
Cheerleading is time-consuming. If are selected to be a member of the squad, then I am under the impression that you are ready to make this your number one priority and commitment. Dates and practices before school ends: The uniform fitting is on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 3 pm. We will be fitted for our cheer uniform and the safety clinic outfit. There is a mandatory Safety Clinic on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Davis High School from 4-7 pm. All incoming cheerleaders are required by the state to attend this clinic. The new squad will be performing with the current cheerleaders at the Year End Assembly, so there will be early morning practices that you will be required to attend. Commitments & Expectations

11 Tentative Summer Schedule
The summer practice schedule will be announced at a later date. Practices will be held in June and August. Cheer Camp will be June 26-29th (Monday- Thursday). The Bountiful Parade is on Friday, July 21st. MPJH 7th Grade Camp is August 10th. Tentative Summer Schedule

12 The cost for cheerleading is $875
The cost for cheerleading is $875. This is the cost that is required by the school district. This cost includes uniforms, daywear, cheer camp, routine costs, cheer pictures and any other expenses that come up throughout the year. The first payment of $450 is due as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, May 12, 2017. Costs
