Summaries Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13

Summaries(Chapter11)-1 Having thought of Jane and Stradlater in the same car, Holden was getting more and more angry. That kind of thinking made him gloomy and sad. Meanwhile, he was reminded of his childhood memories with Jane.

Summaries(Chapter11)-2 She was Holden's friend and was living in the house next to Holden's. They were playing golf and checkers with each other. In doing so, Holden became fallen in love with her.

Summaries(Chapter11)-3 He was also reminded of the time when they nearly embraced each other. The more he thought about Jane, the sadder he was, because he cannot put up with the thought that Jane and Stradlater were in the same car. To relieve his stress and sadness, he left for the night club named Earnie's, where there was a good pianist.

Summaries(Chapter12)-1 To get the night club, Holden took a lousy taxi and talked something with the taxi driver. Holden asked him a question about ducks living in Central park's lagoon. Of course, the taxi driver did not have interest in his question, even he considered it a stupid thing.

Summaries(Chapter12)-2 Holden arrived in the night club. Although the club was packed with the people. He heard Earnie playing the piano, but Holden didn't like him, because he regarded him as a snob.

Summaries(Chapter12)-3 In the lousy atmosphere, he ran across the girl named Lillan, once his brother's ex-girl friend. She was with her new boyfriend but tried to draw Holden's attention, because she wanted him to tell his brother about her. But he did not feel like doing it. So, after saying he had to meet somebody, he left that place.

Summaries(Chapter13)-1 Holden walked all the way back to the hotel, because he was very sad and depressed. On his way, he told us the story about his stolen glove and confessed he had some timid personality. On the hotel's elevator, the elevator guy asked Holden if he felt like having sexual relationship with a woman. Although it was against his principle, he accepted his proposal, because he was feeling so depressed.

Summaries(Chapter13)-2 After even accepting it, he was getting more and more nervous about what was about to happen. Also, he talked about his failure in having relationship with the women in his younger days because of his timidity. In the end, although the prostitute came in his room, he failed to have a relationship with her. Embarrassed and frustrated, she left his room, saying 'so long crumb-bum'.
