There are two forms of the past in French. You have already learned the passé composé. The other form is limparfait.
Limparfait You start with the nous form of a verb You drop the –ons ending. Chanter: nous chantons: The stem you will use is chant

You use limparfait when you are: – setting the scene – describing something – talking about habitual or repeated actions – the action has no real beginning or ending

There are three irregulars: – être ét – falloir il fallait – pleuvoiril pleuvait
cer and ger verbs -cer verbs will add the ç in all forms except the nous and vous! This is different than the present. -ger verbs will add the - e in all forms except the nous and vous!
