1 Welcome to Topaz Netherfield Year 3 / 4

2 Our Week

3 Morning Routines To encourage independence, KS2 children should be left at the end of the walkway Record keeping is simplified if all letters come to school via the classroom teacher Children can enter the classroom any time after 8:45 and before 8:55 to get down to work. If you have anything you want to discuss, I will be in the classroom from 8:45 at the latest.

4 Behaviour Conscientious class behaviour (e.g. active listening, good manners, fair play, kindness towards peers, tidiness, helpfulness & effort when working) all result in rewards (team points, raffle tickets, stickers, Golden Time, work sent to ‘show off’) Good to be Green & red slip system Good behaviour is expected at all times. If a warning is given, a yellow card is issued. Unfortunately, continued behavioural issues will result in a red card. You will be informed of severe behaviour where senior staff have become involved. Positive behaviour is rewarded with bronze, silver, and gold cards.

5 P.E. Wednesdays and Thursdays (this is flexible, however)
Children must have appropriate indoor & outdoor kit, including footwear. Please aim for proper school kit or dark bottoms and plain white tops. Remember, KS2 do get stinky! Wash kits occasionally, please!

6 Maths Homework Weekly books submitted on Fridays
Children’s home learning book level is constantly considered, but will be formally re-assessed before new books go home in January. If children are struggling, provide plenty of support & resources, and do keep me updated. If children are finding work easy, encourage independence. Set personal challenges. Work on memorizing times tables to 12 and corresponding division facts (e.g. 3 x 7 = 21, 7 x 3 = 21, 21 ÷ 7 = 3, 21 ÷ 3 = 7)

7 Spellings Children will start the year being tested on the spelling words for Years 3 and 4 to gauge current level, then continue from the book they were on at the end of last year. They will have five spellings a week, and will continue onto the next week only if they show competency in the current week’s spellings. We work on different spelling rules within our weekly lessons. They may be asked to write sentences with the words in during the test, so must know what they mean. You can help by: Testing weekly lists. Think of memory aides for tricky words – plenty of ideas for each spelling rule online. Ensuring children know what all their words mean. Asking them to try using words in written sentences.

8 Reading Nightly (or every morning before school).
If a child is not enjoying a book, find something that will catch his/her interest. Write in Reading Records – observations & comments help us! A wide variety of genres & topics is included in this – not just ‘school books’. Tell your children what you are reading about.

9 Home Learning Balance support with encouraging independence
Remind children that expectations for homework are the same as classroom work Resources can always be collected at school – just ask! No LEGO or ready-made kits please MyMaths If you have any questions, please come and ask.
