For Tuesday – meet in 6th grade computer lab, sit at any computer for Tuesday ( there will be a seating chart in the future).
You will work on a scavenger hunt for the class webpage, to learn where things are and how to get caught up when you are absent.
Toward the end of class, Mrs. Vanover will have you “sign out”, and go over your answers.
Make sure you turn your paper in for credit!

4. The engineering design process
It is a set of steps followed by engineers, to
define a problem,
brainstorm solutions,
try the one you think is the best,
then improve on it by making changes (doing ITERATIONS).

5. Criteria and constraints
Engineers must work with:
Criteria – the requirements of the design, or what it must be able to do.
Constraints – the limits on the design, such as the cost of materials, the size, how much time to build, etc.

6. Making a puffmobile
Your engineering challenge: Design a “car” using the criteria and constraints that follow, and see which puffmobile can travel nine feet with the FEWEST PUFFS OF BREATH!

9. The criteria and constraints for the puffmobile
Criteria: You may use the following:
3 straws
4 Lifesavers (do NOT eat!  ) – ALL WRAPPERS GO IN THE TRASH!
1 piece of paper
2 paper clips
50 centimeters of tape
Constraint: You must move your puffmobile only by blowing on it.

10. Documenting your work
In your notebook, draw a picture/sketch of your first puffmobile design.
Use words and sketches to record each ITERATION (changes you made to your design) and why.

11. Storing your supplies to continue work next day…
Each group will have a baggie to place their materials in.
Write your baggie number down in your science notebook.
Place all materials in the baggie, unless something won’t fit. Lay large pieces on top of your baggie and make sure your name is on them.
Respect other groups’ baggies as you would want them to be careful near yours.

12. Brainstorm, choose a solution and begin working today.

Then we have the class road test, to see which puffmobile can go 9 feet with the fewest puffs to push it!
