We will use this PowerPoint Quick Start Tutorial to review how easy it is to operate and to add interactivity to your presentations using the Presentation TALKBACK game. CLICK your F5 function key at the top of your keyboard to get started.

2. It’s always there when you open PowerPoint!
First you’ll open the TALKBACK Game by clicking on the Training Presentation Tools tab as pictured above.

3. The TALKBACK Game places 2 buttons on your PowerPoint ribbon bar menu.
Game Menu allows you access the game features and setup in edit mode.
Add Game Buttons will add or remove small black buttons (shown in the upper left corner on this slide) to each of your presentation slides allowing you to access the Game Menu in slideshow mode during your training sessions.
We’ll cover the Game Menu in detail after reviewing how to setup your game.

4. Let’s press the TALKBACK Menu button!
The first screen to display is the TALKBACK scoreboard. Player or team names are typed into the games scoreboard. It holds up to 40 names.
But let’s first click the Players & More button to view the first of two game SETUP screens

Here you can select the number of players or teams (1 – 40) that will appear on the main game Scoreboard. Instead of typing names into the scoreboard itself, you can also (1) Set & Clear Default Names, (2) Set Names based on Playing Cards, (3) or automatically set the scoreboard names for 2 or 4 teams

6. Here’s how these names appear on the Scoreboard
Default Player Names (Player 1, Player 2 etc.) Set Names for 2 Teams (Team 1 (1), Team 1 (2) etc.)
Set Names based on Cards (Ace of Spades, 2 of Spades ) Set Names for 4 Teams (Team 1 (1), Team 1 (2) etc.)

In this section of the PLAYERS & MORE setup screen you can (1) set a Point Multiplying factor, (2) Select the maximum number in a range of numbers for the random number generators in the game, (3) Clear All Scores and see the Game Help Information.

(1) The editable TALKBACK TIME text box and ADD button allow you to place a flashing game reminder (shown top left) on your presentation slides. (2)The “Export to TXT file name above” and editable text box allow you to enter player names in the scoreboard and save them in a text file anywhere on your computer. (3) “The Import from TXT file” button let’s you populate the names on the scoreboard from other text files you’ve previously created.

After clicking the QUESTIONS/PRIZES button: (1) The editable QUESTION/PRIZES text boxes provide you with 13 general player challenges like “Recap or Summarize what the instructor has just presented”. You may develop your own game questions which can (2) also be introduced randomly or sequentially during your presentation. (3) These buttons allow you to “Set (populate) the Default Questions” or use the “Set the Default Prizes” button when using these text messages to award prizes to game winners. The check boxes select or deselect any of the questions/prize messages appearing in your game.

(1) You’ll also be able to SAVE and RESTORE one custom question set that you’ve developed for a presentation. It is important to note that this custom set of questions will be linked to the particular presentation you are working on when the questions were developed and saved. In this way, whenever you again open this specific presentation, the previously created questions will be available to you. (2) The CLEAR ALL button erases all text in the text boxes. Be sure to save the custom questions you’ve developed before clicking on this button.

11. Playing the Game as you Present

Now let’s imagine you’ve just created a great presentation and want to use the TALKBACK game to make your presentation an interactive game. (1) Clicking the small black button (top left) brings up the TALKBACK Scoreboard and navigation menu (CLICK IT NOW)
You’ll notice we’ve highlighted the navigation menu on the left. Let’s review the top 4 game buttons beginning with the Scoreboard.

12. TALKBACK Scoreboard No. 2 No. 1
(1) Click on the SCOREBOARD button to reach the main game scoreboard. Here you can type in players names or use the default name buttons provided on the setup. We’ve set this board up for the maximum 40 players. (2) you can increase a players or teams score by clicking on the blue buttons adjacent to the name, and decrease the score by clicking on the red button. Point increments/decrements are set using the Point Multiplier found on PLAYERS & MORE setup screen.

Here are 4 sample scoreboard setups (1) On Board # 1 we’re set for 20 players. Notice player # 13’s score is highlighted in yellow, which means that this was the last player scored. Also notice player # 14 missed a question (-1). (2) The #2 scoreboard has used the SET NAMES AS CARDS button. The presenter has used this easy method for identifying players. (3) Finally, boards 3 & 4 demonstrate how default names can be automatically entered when setting up for a two or four team game . The first number representing the team, and the second representing the player (I.e. Team 1 (4).- Team One , Player 4)

To reach this screen we click the CHOOSE PLAYER button.(1) Clicking the large yellow button in the center will select a player or team from your audience. Clicking it a second time will bring up another player or team and so on. Player/Teams are selected randomly with each click. (2) Here you’ll find a random number selector as well, which will generate a number from the range you define in the setup. Finally, highlighted in blue, you’ll find a 10, 20, and 30 second response timer.

15. QUESTIONS/PRIZES Screen

To reach this screen we click the SHOW QUESTION button.(1) Clicking the large yellow button in the center will introduce a question to your audience. Clicking it a second time will bring up another question from the 13 questions found in the QUESTIONS/PRIZES setup screen. These can be introduced either randomly or sequentially at strategic moments in your presentation and are designed to engage your class participants.

16. RUN TIMER Screen
TALKBACK also contains a large game timer with multiple features. First of all you can START, PAUSE, or STOP this game timer by clicking the above shown buttons. The timer offers 10, 20, and 30 second button timers, but can also be set from 1 – 240 minutes for timing training exercises or class mini-presentations.

17. RUN TIMER Screen
The RULES/NOTES button provides an editable screen for game rules, program notes or follow-up questions. The COLLASPSE Button highlighted in yellow, minimizes the TALKBACK screen allowing you to show most of your presentation slide, while still being able to easily access the TALKBACK menu buttons.
