2 Prior Knowledge: What do you think?
We know about colors. What is your favorite color? That is an example of what we think. What color is this shirt? This shirt is purple. This is true. We can tell the difference between what is true and what people might think. This will help us learn today.

3 Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between facts and opinions.
A fact is true. An opinion is what someone might think. Everyone could think something different. Concept

4 Deciding if a sentence is a fact
If you can find that it is real or true, then it is a fact. Concept

5 Read these sentences: 1. Rabbits eat carrots.
2. George Washington was the first president of the United States. 3. The flag is red, white and blue. 4. There are books in the library. Are these sentences facts? Yes, all of these sentences are true. Concept

6 Fact It is true. Rabbits eat carrots.
You could look in an encyclopedia and find proof that the sentence states a fact. Fact It is true. Concept

12 Relevance It is important to be able to identify facts and opinions because We need to learn facts about our world that are real and true, like information about bears. We need to have opinions about our favorite things, like our favorite animal.
