3 What is the Book Club Program?
Book Club Program, also referred to as LAP (Learning Assistance Program), is a Washington State-Funded program that provides additional academic support to eligible students. LAP funds at Creekside Elementary are used first to target reading intervention for students in grades K-2. LAP provides supplemental reading support to selected students All elementary schools in the ISD receive FTE for LAP teachers. Creekside is allocated 0.6 for our LAP program.

4 What is the Book Club Program? (slide 2)
Small groups of students meet for 30 minutes of additional Guided Reading Instruction Students in LAP may not miss classroom literacy instruction (Reading, Writing) Students may exit the program when Based on district assessments, the student is meeting standard and no longer requires support Parent(s) request that the student be exited

5 Identifying Students for LAP
Students are invited to participate based on assessment data used to generate a rank order list. For K, 1 and 2 students this data includes: Fountas and Pinnell reading assessments – previous and current year June 2016 report card scores for reading Current and past teacher recommendations Permission Forms sent home and returned Schedule is created with classroom teacher feedback I plan and collaborate with teachers during this process

7 Instructional Materials
ISD provides the curriculum which focuses on research-based strategies, supports learning in the classroom and gives additional opportunities for reading writing Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) lessons provide students with the following opportunities Phonemic Awareness and Phonics Reading Books Writing about Reading Letter/Word Work Home Reading Program

8 Communication and Parent Involvement
Parents are invited to , call or schedule a conference My contact information is on my Connect site, signature and in the LAP/Book Club Program brochure Parent Information Night – December 6 Family Literacy Night – TBD (mid winter) Parent contact initiated by me as needed Site Council presentation Progress Reports – March and June Book Club Program Connect site includes Monthly newsletters, Calendar items and tips for building literacy at home

9 A Few Ways to Motivate Your Reader at Home
Get ideas for good books to read from teachers, friends and libraries Share reading as a family by reading together every day and talking about books Pick fun, unusual places to read (outside in a treehouse, in a fort with pillows, in the kitchen, etc.) Let your child see you read Find books that match your reader’s interest Invite your reader to choose books Stay positive and give encouragement
