2 The conspirators fear Popillus is telling Caesar of the plan, however they notice that Caesar is smiling as they talk Metellus kneels in front of Caesar in order to flatter him Metellus asks Caesar to repeal his brother’s banishment as all the conspirators crowd around Caesar

3 Casca is the first to stab Caesar
Brutus is the last to stab Caesar The senators not involved in the conspiracy flee because they fear for their lives Antony fled his house-afraid they would come for him next Brutus claims they did Caesar a favor –he now has less time to fear death

4 Mark Antony’s servant comes to see Brutus to make sure it is safe for Antony to come and speak with him Brutus promises Antony that he is safe, they have no intention of killing him Cassius promises that Antony will have just as much say in the government Antony shakes each conspirators bloody hand to convince the conspirators he is one their side

5 Antony asks Brutus two questions
Why was Caesar dangerous? Could he speak at the funeral Brutus agrees to let him speak, Cassius does not want Antony to speak Brutus gives Antony a list of rules he must follow in order to speak 1. Antony will speak second 2. Antony cannot blame the conspirators for the killing 3. Antony must say the conspirators gave him permission to speak

6 Antony agrees with the conditions and is left alone with Caesar’s body
Antony speaks to the body and promises Caesar he will avenge his death and Civil War will begin Octavious Caesar’s servant comes in and gives word to Antony that Octavious is on his way Antony informs the servant that Rome is not currently safe and Octavious should wait until after Antony speaks at the funeral, then Octavious could come

7 Act Three-Scene Two The setting is Caesar’s funeral
Brutus is the first to speak-he tells the citizens that Caesar had to die because he was too ambitious Brutus also tells the crowd that they all would have died as slaves if Caesar were to live He goes on to say that the only ones who would be offended by Caesar’s death are those that do not love Rome

8 The citizens agree with Brutus at first
Brutus asks the crowd to stay and listen to Mark Antony speak Antony gets in front of the citizens and begins to contradict Brutus calling Caesar ambitious He uses the term “honorable men” referring to the conspirators-the fact that he constantly repeats this term shows that he is using it in a sarcastic tone

9 The crowd begins to turn against Brutus and toward Antony
Antony mentions Caesar’s will to further gain their attention-he mentions that he left something to each citizen Antony then shows the citizens Caesar’s body and the brutal way which he was killed Antony calls Brutus’ stab wound “The unkindest cut of them all” because Brutus was Caesar’s angel

10 The citizens are appalled by the condition of Caesar’s body
Antony mentions that Caesar left something in his will for each citizen-75 drachmas and the use of this private orchards The citizens begin to burn everything around them and leave to burn down the conspirators houses Octavious’ servant arrives to tell Antony that Octavious is in Rome Brutus and Cassius have fled Rome for fear of their lives
