4 Groups of Three Marxist media theory and Chomsky’s ‘five filters of propaganda’ would argue that the western press is not as ‘free’ or independent as is often claimed. (1500 words) How would you tackle this question? What would you include? How would you structure it?

5 How to: Strong: Excessive meat consumption in America is the leading cause of pollution today, and, thus, is a significant influence on global warming. This thesis makes a claim (specifically a cause and effect claim) about a debatable topic with a narrow enough focus to create an interesting, manageable evaluative essay. Develop a thesis statement Your thesis statement will be a concise idea that sums up your point of view in regards to the question. The thesis usually appears at the end of the introduction paragraph. Having this idea in mind early on in the reading process will help guide your reader through the rest of your essay paper. A good thesis statement is concise and clear. It tells the reader what the point of the paper is and why it's important. The thesis must make a claim of some sort. Weak: Pollution is a problem in the world today. This is not a debatable issue; few people would argue that pollution is not a problem. The topic is also too broad. You can't write a paper on every single aspect of pollution.

Your essay title Marxist media theory and Chomsky’s ‘five filters of propaganda’ would argue that the western press is not as ‘free’ or independent as is often claimed. You may wish to include: Article 8 vs Article 10 Leveson / Specific case studies The role of PCC / IPSO and how this itself is regulated Injunctions and super injunctions words With reference to these two theories in particular and any other theories you feel are relevant evaluate this statement, considering both points of view. Focus on the press within your answer. You must also include references to historical and contemporary case studies and consider recent changes to press law that could affect – positively or negatively - the independence of the press in the future.

7 Your essay title Marxist media theory and Chomsky’s ‘five filters of propaganda’ would argue that the western press is not as ‘free’ or independent as is often claimed. Few could argue that the world faces a huge challenge in the way that it deals with the cumulative effects of climate change. However, it seems impossible to come to a consensus as to how to begin tackle the biggest issue of our lifetime. People will argue that it is cars, overpopulation, consumerism or even natural causes that are the prime instigator of climate change. There is however, an alternative cause: excessive meat consumption in America is the leading cause of pollution today, and, thus, is a significant influence on global warming. Write a draft introduction to this essay, with a clear thesis statement at the end of it. Don’t worry about getting it spot on first time. That’s why it’s called a draft…
