Sentence work – ensuring accurate use of basic sentence punctuation, using varied punctuation for effect, using connectives to join sentences and adjectives to add description. Features of a newspaper article – headings, photographs, past tense, speech. Writing own newspaper articles. Writing a non-chronological report about different jobs in Downton’s history. Designing questions to ask as an interview and writing a report. Guided Reading and comprehension, finding answers within a text and answering questions requiring inference. Phonics – continuing to apply letter patterns in reading and writing. Science Sound – how are sounds made? How do we hear sounds? Which materials let sound travel through them? Exploring vibrations and how the ear works. Investigation skills – making a fair test. Observing seasonal change – looking for signs of spring. Maths Using numberlines and partitioning to carry out subtraction, including crossing the tens boundaries e.g = Measures – units of measurement for weight and capacity. Using scales and containers accurately to weigh items and measure amounts of liquid. Multiplication – looking at multiplication as repeated addition and drawing arrays to solve problems. Division – using repeated subtraction and grouping to solve division problems. Working out the missing value of any digit in a number sentence using all four operations.
