1 Arrival Activity Welcome. We are so glad you are here.
Please go to your assigned seat. Today’s word search activity is waiting for you. Greet the children as they arrive. Sometimes arrival can be hectic, so post the arrival instructions. Before beginning with the opening prayer, review the answers the children have written as a group.

2 Finding God, Grade 2, Session 2
Follow teaching notes on page 9 to introduce opening prayer. God Gives Us Jesus

3 Opening prayer In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. God, help me always to remember the gifts you have given me. Remember our parish intentions for this month: Let’s take a moment to feel calm and quietly at peace. Let’s pray together and ask God to help us learn about what he makes. Close your eyes and fold your hands.

4 Opening prayer Let’s pray for our own intentions for those who are ill or have died or are in need of special prayers and for things for which we are grateful. Children and catechists are invited to speak their intentions. We thank you God for this opportunity to be together. We ask the Holy Spirit to guide us as we listen to today’s lesson. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Following opening prayer, distribute Session 1 pages from student text.

5 Vocabulary Blessed Sacrament: The Eucharist that has been consecrated by the priest at Mass. It is kept I the tabernacle to adore and to be taken to those who are sick. Consecration: The making of a thing or person to be special to God through prayer. At Mass the words of the priest are a consecration of the bread and wine. This makes them the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Emmanuel: A name that means “God with us.” It is a name given to Jesus. These are the new words we will learn about today.

6 Vocabulary Continued Genuflect: To show respect in the church by touching a knee to the ground especially in front of the tabernacle. Savior: Jesus, the Son of God, who became man to make us friends with God again. Jesus means, “God saves.” Tabernacle: The container in which the Blessed Sacrament is kept so that Holy Communion can be taken to those who are sick.

7 Most Precious Gift God help me know that you make all things so that I can see how good and wonderful you are. Review teaching notes on page 10 of teacher text to determine presentation of ideas.

8 Most Precious Gift (continued)
TABERNACLE The locked enclosure where the Blessed Sacrament is kept. Our tabernacle is accessible from the church and from the Adoration Chapel. BLESSED SACRAMENT CHAPEL Daily Mass is celebrated in the Chapel. Parishioners spend time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. MONSTRANCE The vessel which holds the Blessed Sacrament for adoration. Review notes on page 11 to determine how you will present the material. Identify the pictures from our chapel and sanctuary and talk about their use. CIBORIUM The vessel that contains the consecrated bread. It is stored in the tabernacle.

9 Jesus is born Review notes on page 12 to determine how you will present the material. If you decide to use the 1st approach, it will take about minutes of your class time, so plan to eliminate one of the three activities at the end of the lesson.

10 Savior Jesus Christ Emmanuel Another name

15 Closing Prayer

16 Sign of the Cross In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit Amen.

17 Our Father Our Father, Who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

18 Blessed are you among women,
Hail Mary Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

19 Act of Contrition O my God,
I am heartily sorry for having offended you. And I detest all my sins because of your just punishment. But most of all because they offend you my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen

20 Sign of the Cross In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit Amen.
