1 Writing Prompt for Ch 7 Test
REVIEW

2 Distinguish between mitosis & meiosis in humans. Discuss the following:
Number of chromosomes in parent cell. Mitosis: 46 Meiosis: 46

3 Number of cell divisions
Mitosis: 1 Meiosis: 2

4 Number of daughter cells
Mitosis: 2 Meiosis: 4

5 Number of chromosomes in daughter cells.
Mitosis: 46 Meiosis: 23

6 Comparison of daughter cells to parent cell.
Mitosis: both the parent cell and the daughter cells produced during mitosis are diploid (2n) and have 46 chromosomes. The daughter cells are identical to the parent cell. Meiosis: unlike the diploid parent cell, the daughter cells produced during meiosis are haploid (n) and have 23 chromosomes. The daughter cells are genetically different from the parent cell.

7 Comparison of daughter cells to each other.
The two daughter cells produced in mitosis are diploid. The two daughter cells produced during mitosis do not contain genetic variation. (identical) The four daughter cells produced in meiosis are haploid. The four daughter cells produced during meiosis contain genetic variation. (not identical)
