7 Key Point #1 God, who is our Maker and Savior, wants us to obey his commands gladly and willingly.

8 Why does God want us to obey his commands?
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Genesis 3:1-6 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” The devil makes us think God’s commands are unloving and burdensome

Psalm 19:7-8 The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. for our good I’m happy

11 Why does God want us to obey his commands?
Psalm 119:45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. for our good I’m happy I’m free

12 Key Point #2 God wants us to obey his commands so that we have true happiness, joy and freedom.

1 Peter 1:15-16 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” holy

14 How well does God want us to obey his commands?
Matthew 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. perfectly

15 How well does God want us to obey his commands?
James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. perfectly Do!

Leviticus 5:17 “If anyone sins and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD’s commands, even though they do not know it, they are guilty and will be held responsible. perfectly Do! Don’t!

17 Key Point #3 God wants us to obey every one of his “do” and his “don’t” commands perfectly.

18 Evaluate… John says: “It sure is a drag being a Christian. Look at all the fun I miss out on because of the laws God wants me to follow.”

19 Agree or Disagree… Most of the time I obey God’s law out of love for Jesus, but sometimes I obey it only because I fear punishment.

20 Evaluate… Judy says: “I know that as long as I obey God’s law I will never have any hardship or trouble in my life.”

21 Lesson 5 God our Savior teaches me that he wants me to obey his commands gladly and perfectly because he has given them to me for my good.
