1 Back To The Bible Sunday
Wisdom From God Back To The Bible Sunday

2 Why We Need To Get Back To The Bible
Special welcome to visitors who might be here today because we visited your house yesterday. Thanks for being polite and warm and for welcoming us at your door. We hope you are encouraged today by your visit with us. We are convicted that people have wandered away from Bible study and think it’s high time we got back!

3 Why Is Bible Knowledge Important?
It is the word of God and gives us direction in this mixed up world. Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

4 It Gives Us Peace In A Troubled World
Psalm 119:165 – “Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble.” Would you like to be at peace and untroubled so that nothing “throws you for a loop”?

5 It Prepares Us To Serve God Faithfully
2 Timothy 3: All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. Wouldn’t you like to know what God wants from you so you can serve Him well?

6 How Does Bible Ignorance Hurt Us?
It leads to the destruction of individuals and nations Hosea 4:1,6 – “Listen to the word of the Lord, O sons of Israel, for the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land, because there is no faithfulness or kindness or knowledge of God in the land….My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest….”

7 It Leads To Spiritual Starvation
Isaiah 5: “Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge, and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude is parched with thirst.”

8 A Famine Of Ignorance Amos 8:11 – “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “When I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst or water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord.”

9 5 Things Which The Bible Gives Me
#1 – God’s plan of salvation Romans 10:8-10, 14 – “But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation….How then will they call on Him

10 …in whom they have not believed
…in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?” What must the preacher be preaching?

11 Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

12 The Bible Gives Us Faith
Romans 10:17 – “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

13 It Gives Us Armor To Survive
Ephesians 6:14-17 – “Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

14 It Gives Us A Moral Compass
1 Thessalonians 4:1 – “Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more.”

15 1 Timothy 3:15 “…but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.”

16 It Gives Us Blessed Assurance
Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

17 Philippians 3:8-10 “More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death….”

18 1 John 5:13 “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
