1 ROMANS 8

2 ENSLAVEMENT VS. INCORPORATION
Sin enslaves and condemns (Rom 6) Apart from Christ sin dominates man (Rom 7) Freedom from sin is found in Christ (Rom 8)

3 No Condemnation in Christ Jesus
Set free by the Gospel “the law of the Spirit of life” 1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. Romans 8:1–2 (NASB95)

4 No Condemnation in Christ Jesus
Set free by the Gospel “the law of the Spirit of life” The revealing work of the Holy Spirit 4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, Romans 1:4 (NASB95)

5 No Condemnation in Christ Jesus
Set free by the Gospel “the law of the Spirit of life” The revealing work of the Holy Spirit The Gospel by which God makes men righteous 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16 (NASB95)

6 No Condemnation in Christ Jesus
Law of sin and death Law could not Do not walk acc. To the flesh Fleshly mind is set on fleshly things Mind set on the flesh = death Mind set on flesh is hostile to God Law of the Spirit of life God did Walk acc. to the Spirit Spiritual mind on spiritual things Mind set on Spirit = life & peace Spirit is alive because of righteousness

7 No Condemnation in Christ Jesus
In Christ, through the revealing work of the Holy Spirit, I become a new man freed from the fear of the condemnation brought by sin.

8 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
Am I Saved? We must not minimize sin to assure salvation We cannot trust the subjective interpretation of our experience The Spirit provides objective testimony through His revelation 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:16 (NASB95)

9 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
A Clear Obligation We are under obligation to live by the Spirit that justifies us Any action contrary to obedient faith leads to death Confidence is found by being “led by the Spirit” 13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:13 (NASB95)

10 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
The Spirit’s Testimony Not through subjective interpretations of our suffering Life is inherently filled with trials, these do not speak to my condition before God When doubt arises I must trust the testimony of the Spirit 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:16 (NASB95)

11 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
The Spirit’s Testimony Not through subjective interpretations of our suffering Life is inherently filled with trials, these do not speak to my condition before God When doubt arises I must trust the testimony of the Spirit 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; Romans 3:24 (NASB95)

12 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
The Spirit’s Testimony Not through subjective interpretations of our suffering Life is inherently filled with trials, these do not speak to my condition before God When doubt arises I must trust the testimony of the Spirit 25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification. Romans 4:25 (NASB95)

13 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
The Spirit’s Testimony Not through subjective interpretations of our suffering Life is inherently filled with trials, these do not speak to my condition before God When doubt arises I must trust the testimony of the Spirit 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. Romans 5:9 (NASB95)

14 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
The Spirit’s Testimony Not through subjective interpretations of our suffering Life is inherently filled with trials, these do not speak to my condition before God When doubt arises I must trust the testimony of the Spirit 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:21 (NASB95)

15 No DOUBTING MY SALVATION
The Spirit’s Testimony Not through subjective interpretations of our suffering Life is inherently filled with trials, these do not speak to my condition before God When doubt arises I must trust the testimony of the Spirit 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11 (NASB95)

16 CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER Our prayers demonstrate our perspective
Human wisdom/understanding cannot process the difficulties of life The Spirit, through the Word, offers perspective that we might know how to pray 26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; Romans 8:26 (NASB95)

17 OVERWHELMING CONQUERORS
The man relying on the flesh is seeking a goal beyond his abilities By walking in the Spirit, we trust in God to deliver us It is this relationship that is our guarantee of victory 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 (NASB95)

18 OVERWHELMING CONQUERORS
Overwhelming Provision The perfect sacrifice has been made – vs. 32 The law maker declared us not guilty – vs. 33 The King interceded on our behalf – vs. 34 On the basis of His choice to love those who walk according to the Spirit – vs. 35 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 (NASB95)

19 OVERWHELMING CONQUERORS
Through Him Who Loved Us No an unconditional promise These blessings are for those who “walk according to the Spirit” Every enemy that could stand between us and God has been conquered Will we allow our own lusts to defeat us? 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 (NASB95)
