1 Our topic for this half term is ‘Around the World’. WB 28/11/16
We have been extremely busy preparing for the arrival of Christmas in Reception this week. The children have been listening to the Christmas story and using puppets to re-tell the story in our puppet theatre. Some children have even been singing some of the songs from our Nativity whilst playing. In addition to this, we have been visiting the hall as often as we can to practise our Nativity. Please talk to your child about using a loud, clear voice on the stage so the audience will be able to hear the words at the back of the hall. We read the story ‘Puddles and the Christmas Play’ (Gill Vaisey) and talked about helping our friends if they are worried about speaking or forget what to do or say. We have completed learning our Phase 2 Letter Sounds this week. The sounds we have covered are: Set 1: s, a, t & p Set 2: i, n, m & d Set 3: g, o, c & k Set 4: ck, e, u & r Set 5: h, b, f/ff, l/ll, ss We have moved on to Phase 3 to cover the sounds j, v, w and x. Next week we will cover z/zz. Each child counted out some chocolate coins this week and practised finding one more. Some children added one more coin before recounting to find out how many they had. Others were already able to say the number one more without having to count from the beginning each time. Remember to practise counting on from different points at home to support this skill. It would be great to practise this skill at home when you are counting objects together. Offer your child one more- can they count on one more to tell you how many they will have altogether? In addition to one more, the children have also been learning about one less. We started our countdown to Christmas on Tuesday by opening our advent calendar. We will continue to take one away each day (one less) and talk about what is happening to the numbers. There is a great game on the computer that the children have played in school to help them recognise more and less- why not have a go at home…. Our topic for this half term is ‘Around the World’. WB 28/11/16 We look forward to receiving the costumes on Monday next week. The children have been very keen to tell us what they will be wearing. Bringing them into school early means we will have lots of opportunities to practise getting changed and wearing our costumes on the stage. We look forward to seeing you all there. We will be visiting the woods on Friday 9th December and Friday 16th December (morning). These will be our last visits to the woods before Christmas. Please remember to pack gloves for your child to wear to keep their hands warm and clean. Children may bring one small snack to eat whilst we are there. Have a great weekend! Next week we will set up an Opticians role play area in the classroom to help us with our phonic assessments. Children love to visit our opticians, put on the pretend glasses and say the letter sound when it is pointed to!
