(p for noninferiority = 0.01)
ACT I Trial design: Asymptomatic subjects with carotid artery stenosis were randomized to carotid artery stenting with embolic protection (n = 1,089) vs. carotid endarterectomy (n = 364). (p for noninferiority = 0.01) Results Death, stroke, or MI within 30 days or ipsilateral stroke within 1 year: 3.8% of the carotid stent group vs. 3.4% of the carotid endarterectomy group (p for noninferiority = 0.01) Death or major stroke: 0.6% vs. 0.6% 3.8 3.4 % Conclusions Among asymptomatic patients with carotid artery stenosis, carotid artery stenting with embolic protection was noninferior to carotid endarterectomy Long-term outcomes were similar between the groups Carotid endarterectomy Carotid stenting Rosenfield K, et al.
