1 Description of True Christians
John 10:22-42

2 Do you have eternal life? Are you a Jesus follower?
Do you know Jesus? Do you have eternal life? Are you a Jesus follower? Are you living in Christ? Are you showing the love of Jesus so that others are seeing Jesus in you? ~~~Do you know Jesus? ~~~ Do you have eternal life? ~~~Are you a Jesus follower? ~~~Are you living in Christ? ~~~~~~~Are you showing the love of Jesus so that others are seeing Jesus in you? The sheep and the shepherd, sheep fold

3 John 10:22-42 They were not “of His sheep” and therefore could not believe. He here gives a beautiful description of true Christians, His sheep: John 10:22–42 (ESV) — 22 At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, (This is the celebration of when worship started in Jerusalem) 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon. 24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” 31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” 33 The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? 35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken— 36 do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; 38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” 39 Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. 40 He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. 41 And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” 42 And many believed in him there. Two or three months later the Jews were still arguing with Jesus about what He said! Christ pointed out to them that ~~~they were not “of His sheep” and therefore could not believe. ~~~~~~He here gives a beautiful description of true Christians, His sheep:

4 They hear His voice Which means they respond to His Word
They know Christ and are known (vv. 14, 27), They will not follow a false shepherd They will not run from one religious system to another Church members who run from one religious system to another or one cult to another are proving they are not true sheep. ~~~Which means they respond to His Word ~~~They know Christ and are known (vv. 14, 27), John 10:14 (ESV) I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, John 10:27 (ESV) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. ~~~They will not follow a false shepherd ~~~They will not run from one religious system to another ~~~~~~~~Church members who run from one religious system to another or one cult to another are proving they are not true sheep.

5 They follow Christ, which speaks of obedience.
Willful, persistent open disobedience with a refusal to correction shows they are not sheep. Cannot claim to be a sheep Proof of not being a sheep ~~~Willful, persistent open disobedience with a refusal to correct ~~~Cannot claim to be a sheep ~~~~~~~Proof of not being a sheep

6 Just as there are false shepherds, there are goats trying to pass for sheep
“I never knew you.” Matthew 7:21–23 (ESV) — 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ ~~~ “I never knew you.” ~~~~~~~~~Matthew 7:21–23 (ESV) — 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Next Slide No one has a right to claim to be one of Christ’s sheep if he or she lives in willful, persistent, open disobedience, and refuses to do something about it. Just as there are false shepherds, so there are goats who try to pass for sheep. One day Christ will say to them, “I never knew you” (Matt. 7:23).

7 No one has a right to claim to be one of Christ’s sheep if he or she lives in willful, persistent, open disobedience, and refuses to do something about it. No one has a right to claim to be one of Christ’s sheep if he or she lives in willful, persistent, open disobedience, and refuses to do something about it.

8 They have eternal life and are secure.
John 10:28–29 (ESV) — 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. John 10:28–29 (ESV) — 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.  Verses 28 and 29 declare the wonderful security true believers have in Christ. We have eternal life, not just life “for as long as we don’t sin.”

9 Double Assurance In Christ’s care In the Father’s hand

10 Sheep are great illustration of Christians
Clean animals—Christians have been cleansed from sin Sheep flock together—So should Christians Sheep are harmless—Christians should be harmless and blameless Sheep are given to wandering-So are we Sheep need protection, guidance food Christians need Christ for spiritual protection, daily guidance and food. ~~~Clean animals—Christians have been cleansed from sin ~~~Sheep flock together—So should Christians ~~~Sheep are harmless—Christians should be harmless and blameless ~~~Sheep are given to wandering-So are we ~~~Sheep need protection, guidance food ~~~~~~Christians need Christ for spiritual protection, daily guidance and food.

11 Sheep are great illustration of Christians
Sheep are useful and productive; so are true Christians. Sheep were used for sacrifices; and Christians are willing to yield themselves for Christ as “living sacrifices” (Rom. 12:1). Romans 12:1 (ESV) I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. ~~~Christians need Christ for spiritual protection, daily guidance and food. ~~~Sheep are useful and productive; so are true Christians. ~~~Sheep were used for sacrifices; and Christians are willing to yield themselves for Christ as “living sacrifices” (Rom. 12:1). ~~~~~~Romans 12:1 (ESV) I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

12 Jews proved their unbelief by trying to kill Christ.
Leaving unnecessary danger Many believed in Him By faith, they stepped through the Door, out of the Jewish religious fold, and into the liberty and eternal life Christ alone can give. Have you believed? ~~~Jews proved their unbelief by trying to kill Christ. ~~~Leaving unnecessary danger ~~~Many believed in Him ~~~By faith, they stepped through the Door, out of the Jewish religious fold, and into the liberty and eternal life Christ alone can give. ~~~Have you believed?
