3 The team! Miss Ahmed is class teacher for 6A
Miss Weeks and Mrs Pienaar share class teacher responsibilities for 6W (Miss Weeks Mon-Thurs and Mrs Pienaar on a Friday) Miss Dalrymple takes top set English for 5 sessions a week. The team is supported by Mrs Parry, Mrs Gray, Mr Sullivan, Mrs McCabe and Kevin.

5 What is Year 6 all about? The purpose of Year 6 is to prepare children for secondary school by building on, consolidating, using and applying their skills and knowledge from lower down in the school.

6 Overview of the year (dates)
11+ results Friday 16th October. Applications for secondary schools deadline 31st October SATS – w/c 9th May These follow a new format this year. There will be an information evening nearer the time. River Dart residential w/c 13th June – initial information evening to be held at school Wednesday October 21st at 7pm. John Ennals Project Enterprise – a chance to put into practice skills learnt throughout school Transition Production

7 Curriculum – topic areas covered
Autumn term 1st half – Crime and Punishment (History focus) Autumn Term 2nd half – We are Technos (DT and Geography focus) Spring term 1st half – Battle of Britain (History focus) Spring term 2nd half – South America (Geography focus) Summer term – We Are Britain (History focus) We will be encouraging the children to undertake a piece of personal research for three of these topics.

9 Creative Learning (trips and outdoor learning)
Outdoor cooking in our very own fire pit Tower of London trip – Tuesday 20th October Burnham Beeches orienteering and map skills RAF Hendon Trip (Spring 1) River Dart Enterprise Trip

10 Organisation for Maths and English
Started this week: 3 groups for each. Miss Weeks’ maths group – children who were working at L5. Mrs Pienaar’s maths group – who were working at L4 and L5. Miss Ahmed’s maths group – who were working at L3 and 4. Miss Dalrymple’s English group – who were working at L4 and L5. Miss Weeks’ English group – who were working at L4. Mrs Pienaar’s English group – who were working at L3 and L4. Groups are constantly being reviewed.

16 School Uniform Well done – your children look very smart! School jumper/cardigan ONLY Shirt only with top button closed Black shoes All items need to be named Hair longer than shoulder length needs to be tied back at all times Earrings – should only be simple studs and if possible, not worn on PE days. If this is not possible, please provide microporous tape.

17 Equipment Dictionary Clipboard Headphones Art Shirt
Pencil case (incl. Pencils, glue, scissors, non flexible ruler, sharpener with canister) All items need to be named – including pencil cases.
