9 Learning Challenge One
How does the history of Rugby school impact on the community? Would I like to have been a pupil at Rugby school in the early 1800’s? What difficulties did Tom Brown overcome and what is his legacy? Why do students come to Rugby school? Is there anybody famous that went to Rugby school? How popular is the game of rugby? Reflection: Produce an information leaflet on Rugby School.

10 Science Topic Forces by Empiribox
I can compare how things move on different surfaces. I know that some forces need contact between two objects. I know that magnetic forces can act at a distance. I know that magnets can attract or repel each other. I know that magnets attract some materials but not others. I can compare and group everyday materials based on whether they are attracted to a magnet. I can identify some magnetic materials. I can describe magnets as having two poles. I can predict whether two magnets will attract or repel, depending on which poles are facing.

11 Enhancing the Curriculum
Rugby School visit (under £10) Visitors in school Greek Day Compton Verney (Stone Age experience) £15 Do you have any expertise or contacts?

12 PE PE will be on a Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon; we also have a PE coach (Mr Harding) teaching one lesson a week. This half term we are doing tennis and basketball. Full PE kit is required – outdoor & indoor.

13 Accelerated Reader Every half term children do an Star reading assessment - this gives the level of the book your child needs to read and an individual Target. The target is the number of points your child aims to achieve within that term. Each book has a sticker in the front cover which has the number of points it is worth, so more difficult or longer books are worth more points. When your child has read a book they do a ‘quiz’ – if they get more than 60% of the questions correct they gain the points earned for that book and they are stored on the computer. Children should aim for at least 85% of answers correct – please discuss the book with your child as they read & talk about it after they have read it. Year 3 children should be reading for 20 minutes 5 x week – if their diary is signed to say they have read 5 times; they earn a stamp. These are checked on a Friday.

14 Twitter Year 3’s Twitter day is Tuesday but we will tweet on other days when we have something interesting to share! Any questions, please contact the Class teacher or the Office rather than use Twitter.

15 End of Year Expectations for Year 3 These are the end of year expectations for Year 3 children in our school. The National Curriculum outlines these expectations as being the minimum requirements your child must meet in order to ensure continued progress.   All the objectives will be worked on throughout the year and will be the focus of direct teaching. Any extra support you can provide in helping your children to achieve these is greatly valued.   The children will know what targets they are working towards now as they are in the front of their writing and maths books. These begin with emerging then at year 3 expectations and there is a greater depth assessment sheet.
