2 Plans for This Week Confirmation vote on TG2 Editor
May 2001 Plans for This Week Confirmation vote on TG2 Editor Review Outline of Recommended Practice Liaison with Bluetooth SIG Coexistence Working Group (?) Progress Report from AFH Ad Hoc Committee Work on a consensus AFH proposal Vote on consensus AFH proposal Discuss b TPC and Data Rate Scaling Agree on a Representative Set of Coexistence Scenarios TG2 Project Plan Update Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

3 May 2001 New TG2 Editor Due to new commitments at work Dan McGlynn can no longer serve as the TG2 Editor As a result I have appointed David Cypher as the new TG2 Editor TG2 voted to reaffirm David Cypher as the TG2 Editor Passed 6/0/1 Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

4 May 2001 TG2 Presentations David Cypher, Baseline Recommended Practice, 01/239r0 K.C. Chen, H. K. Chen, C.C. Chao, Merged IPC and TI Adaptive Frequency Hopping Proposals, 01/246r0 Bijan Treister, AFH Ad Hoc Group Summary, 01/248r0. Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

5 May 2001 FCC NPRM On May 10 the FCC issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making, The NPRM addresses several issues DSSS Processing Gain Digital Modulation Adaptive Frequency Hopping TG2 review the NPRM on the issue of Adaptive Frequency Hopping Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

6 FCC NPRM 01-158 Paragraph a.1.iii
May 2001 FCC NPRM Paragraph a.1.iii Frequency hopping systems in the MHz band shall use at least 75 non-overlapping channels, except that as few as 15 non-overlapping channels may be used for systems that intelligently modify their hopsets in accordance with Section (g). Hopsets modified in this manner must be re-determined at least once every 30 seconds. The average time of occupancy on any channel shall not be greater than 0.4 seconds within a period of 0.4 seconds multiplied by the number of hopping channels employed. Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

7 May 2001 FCC NPRM Paragraph b.1 For frequency hopping systems in the MHz band employing at least 75 hopping channels, and all frequency hopping systems in the MHz band: 1 Watt. For all other frequency hopping systems in the band: Watt Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

8 May 2001 FCC NPRM AFH Summary Minimum of 15 non-overlapping channels for systems that intelligently modify their hopsets. Hopsets must be re-determined at least every 30 seconds. Average occupancy must not exceed 400 ms in N*400 ms (where N is number of hopping channels). Maximum 125 mwatts if using < 75 hopping channels. Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

9 May 2001 IEEE /095r2 Vic Hayes has recommended adding a Sixth Requirement to the Five Criteria Document Regulatory Compliance Spectrum Sharing Feasibility Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

10 May 2001 Vic’s Proposed Text 6 Regulatory Conformity and Spectrum Sharing Feasibility For a wireless project to be authorized, it shall address regulatory conformity and show spectrum sharing feasibility for its intended applications. At a minimum, the proposed project shall address: a) Conformance to existing regulations for proposed regulatory domains: ITU, regional, national, etc. b) Feasibility of coexistence with other IEEE 802 standards and projects, and other devices that share the spectrum c) Confidence that ongoing regulatory activity (e.g. FCC Notice Of Inquiry, Notice of Proposed Rule Making) will allow deployment of devices implementing the proposed standard Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

11 May 2001 TG2’s Version Regulatory Conformity and Coexistence with other Wireless IEEE 802 Standards For a wireless project to be authorized, the Project Authorization Request (PAR) shall require regulatory conformity and coexistence with other Wireless IEEE 802 Standards. At a minimum, the proposed project shall require: (a) Conformance to existing regulations for proposed regulatory domains (e.g. ITU, regional, national) or have indications that ongoing regulatory activity (e.g. FCC Notice Of Inquiry, Notice of Proposed Rule Making) will allow deployment of devices implementing the proposed standard. (b) Coexistence with other Wireless IEEE 802 standards and projects. Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

12 May 2001 TPC/DRS Proposal At the March meeting TG2 approved a non-collaborative coexistence mechanism for Transmit Power Control and Data Rate Scaling in b Matthew Shoemake, who submitted the proposal, is too busy to work on the proposal at this point in time. 802.11h is adding TPC to Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

13 Motions on TPC/DRS Proposal
May 2001 Motions on TPC/DRS Proposal Motion to drop the TPC mechanism proposal Passed 4/0/1 Straw poll to see if there is merit in working on Data Rate Scaling (if we can find resources to work on it) Passed 13/0/1 Action Item to recruit people to work on Data Rate Scaling Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

14 IEEE 802.15.2 Project Plan S. Shellhammer, TG2 Project Plan, 00/089r2.
May 2001 IEEE Project Plan S. Shellhammer, TG2 Project Plan, 00/089r2. Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

15 Adaptive Frequency Hopping
May 2001 Adaptive Frequency Hopping B. Treister, H. B. Gan, K. C. Chen, H. K. Chen, A. Batra, O. Eliezer, Adaptive Frequency Hopping: A Non-Collaborative Coexistence Mechanism, 01/252r0. TG2 voted to adopt this proposal Passed 10/0/1 Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies

16 Representative Set of Interference Scenarios
May 2001 Representative Set of Interference Scenarios TG2 discussed which interference scenarios to simulate and include in the Recommended Practice. Nada Golmie will summarize the agreed upon scenarios and post to the reflector. Steve Shellhammer, Symbol Technologies
