So much to do, will explore this with you. An overview would be: Students’ Union – clubs, societies and events; Museums and galleries – over 300 in London! Concerts, plays and musicals; Football, cricket and other sporting events; Festivals and other events; Parks; Public Buildings and Monuments; Pubs and Clubs; Eating out. Give a brief overview of what these different things are and the average cost. e.g. museums are usually free eating out and cinemas vary in price, have a look in your campus guide

Tate Modern and Tate Britain; National Gallery; British Museum; Imperial War Museum; Victoria and Albert Museum Natural History Museum and Science Museum. (You will usually need to pay for special exhibitions.)

Somerset House & National Theatre (both near King’s!); Music venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall often run free lunchtime concerts – look in Time Out for information Loads of London festivals festivals/the-best-music-festivals-in-london Many churches have regular free lunchtime concerts; Open-air events in summer.

14 Travel Tips Oyster card is the cheapest & most convenient way to pay for your travel; Student Oyster card can save 30% off on weekly / monthly / annual cards only; NOT PAY AS YOU GO! Apply through 16-25 Railcard will get you a discount on trains outside of London Buses can be cheaper than the tube (£1.50 per journey) Only use Black cabs or licensed cabs – ‘Uber’ ‘Hailo’ and ‘Cabwise’ are useful apps to download Never try and avoid paying for travel london-tube-hacks-get-around-city-faster Brief discussion around transport-London has a lot to offer but knowing how to get to these places will save you a lot of headaches-there are many options on how to get around the city Tube (Underground) Overground Bus – cheaper than the tube! Train DLR Cycle on Santander bikes Taxi – Black Cab, Uber River transport Walk London has an expansive network of (all the above). 18-25 railcard – can buy online or at a ticket office at a station There are various tickets that you can get for your needs explain: season tickets travel cards pay as you go Student Oyster card – highlight the discount is only on travelcards and not pay as you go Network card etc Transportation is really safe in London, but you do still want to ensure you are being vigilant

Finding apps for services you use (Uber, TFL, maps) Use map apps to explore areas you have not been to before – think about how to feel safe away from your family and friends Do attend the Welcome to Kings events and safety talks 21st and 22nd September Normal city rules apply: Be aware of safety issue of being out late at night on your own Keep valuables secure Look after each other while you are out and about socialising Travel Plan your route before you leave tfl.gov.uk , Only use taxis or registered minicabs; Try not to walk alone a night – keep to well-lit areas & roads; Keep your valuables out of sight. Bars & Clubs Keep your property safe, don’t ever leave your bag unattended; Do not accept drinks from strangers & never leave your drinks unattended. Emergency Services Police, ambulance, fire department on 999 or 112 – only use them in a real emergency; To report non-urgent crime, contact your local police station by calling 101.
