2 His Young Life John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917 He had an older brother named Joe, five younger sisters, and two younger brothers At age 16, He entered Choate, a boys boarding school in Connecticut

3 Kennedy's College Life After graduating from Choate, Kennedy enrolled at Princeton in 1935 At Princeton he become very ill and had to withdraw After recovering from his illness, Kennedy enrolled at Harvard in 1936 and later graduated in 1941

4 Kennedy in the Navy Soon after graduation, Kennedy joined the Navy with his older brother Joe in 1941 Kennedy served for several years His older brother, Joe, was a pilot sent to Europe, and in Joe died in a plane accident in Europe

5 Kennedy's start with Politics
In 1946, Kennedy ran for Congress as he thought his late older brother would have Kennedy won his election to the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives After serving 6 years in the House of Representatives, Kennedy was elected to the Senate in 1952

6 Kennedy's Marriage and Family
In 1953 Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier Together they had four children, but only two lived through infancy

7 Kennedy's Election and Presidency
In 1960, the Democratic Party nominated Kennedy as a presidential candidate Kennedy won against Richard Nixon, and was sworn into office on January 20, 1961 Kennedy faced many problems during his presidency, such as Communism in Cuba and Russia Kennedy worked towards equality in many forms such as civil rights and employment

8 Kennedy's Death On November 21, 1963, Kennedy flew to Texas to give speeches around the state On the 22nd, he was in Dallas going slowly through a cheering crowd when, all of a sudden, shots were heard Kennedy had been shot and died shortly after Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for his murder, but he too was shot and killed by another man before he could be questioned

9 Fast Facts Kennedy was the first Roman-Catholic president
He was the youngest elected president He won a Pulitzer Prize in history for his book “Profiles in Courage” He established the Peace Corps, a leadership program that helps others around the globe and is still active today
