1 Tool Names and uses Tech Theatre

2 TOOLS IN THE SHOP Be sure to ask questions before using any tool you are not familiar with. Do NOT risk injury to yourself or others (or the tool). There are a lot of tools available, a small number of which are in our Scene Shop. This is just a small selection of the most basic wood working tools that get used almost every day.

5 Carpenter’s square Use: to make sure that joints and cuts are square, also doubles as a marking gauge Do you know? Other names

Level Use: to make sure that things are level, that is perpendicular with the floor Do you know? They have phone apps now

7 Use: to mark out straight lines for cutting
Chalk Line Use: to mark out straight lines for cutting Do you know? Also called snap lines, bc you snap it to mark

11 Circle Saw Use: for making cuts on wood, especially usefull for things that can’t be put on a table saw. Quicker and better than the handsaw

19 What materials could you use with this?
Utility knife Use: practically everything, but not very useful on wood. Most useful for canvas and other soft materials. What materials could you use with this?

20 Hammer Use: comes in a wide variety. Used for driving in nails, and the claw can be used to take them out. Also useful for scoring material and texturing it. Do you know? The difference between a hammer & mallet?

23 Power drill Use: fitted with a cutting tool attachment or driving tool attachment, usually a drill bit or driver bit, used for drilling holes in various materials or fastening various materials together with the use of fasteners
