Some fibres are obtained from plants and some fibres are obtained from animals. Wool and silk fibres are obtained from animals. Wool is obtained from fleece of sheep or yak. Silk fibres comes from cocoons of silk moth. Animals fibres are the fibres that are naturally obtained from animals. In India wools are generally obtained from sheep. Silk has a several natural properties that make it distinct from all other fibres both natural and man made.

The most common wool yielding animal is the sheep. Sheep can be categorized major three types when it comes to wool production: fine wool, medium and coarse wool and hair type wool.

Mohair and cashmere come from goats. Mohair comes from the Angora goat, which produces a long shaggy coat that is generally clipped twice per year.

The musk ox produces a soft inner wool called qiviut. The musk ox is found in far northern climates including Canada, Greenland and Alaska.

Camel hair is most commonly produced in Inner Mongolia and other areas in China. Camel can produce about 20 pounds of wool each year.

Rabbit hair can also be used for producing wool. Angora rabbits can produce about 3 pounds of hair per year. It is used to make sweaters, gloves and scarves.
