2 What is sjogren’s syndrome? Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease in which a person’s white blood cells attack their moisture- producing glands (lachrymal glands and salivary glands.)

3 Cause/ Etiology Genetic predisposition, hormonal, and environmental factors patient's immune system attacks healthy cells and tissues, mistaking them for dangerous pathogens, such as infectious bacteria or viruses. lymphocytic infiltrates of lachrymal and salivary glands. destruction of the salivary and lachrymal glands

5 HLA asso: (HLA)-DR and HLA-DQ gene regions Age group asso & sex group asso: Women Can also affect men and children Middle age women (between 35-35 y.o.)
