OUR NEW Conduct & Reward Card EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW Our new conduct & reward card is our way of making sure that you are being rewarded for positive behaviour and to help you improve in important areas of being a student at The Robert Napier School. You must carry your conduct & reward card with you at all times. You are not allowed to refuse to give your card to a member of staff when asked.

Your FULL NAME, FORM GROUP and FORM TUTOR must be written on both sides of the card. Keep the card very safe. The best place is in the plastic pocket in your planner.

BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING We have high expectations and high aspirations for you in our vision of excellence in all we do. “ ” The card has 2 sides: “R&R” – Rewards & Recognition This records your positive behaviours. You want to get as many “R&R” signatures as you can. You aren’t allowed to ask for them, though. “U&C” – Uniform & Conduct This records your “infringements” of school rules and expectations. You want to avoid getting these signatures. You must always give your card to a member of staff when asked and not make a fuss when you get an “infringement” 

Teachers will give your “R&R” signatures for positive things you do around the school (not in lessons, though). When you collect five signatures HORIZONTALLY you will get 5 merits and your card is entered for the Big Prize Draw. You are NOT allowed to ask for “R&R” points.

You get an “infringement” when you break one of the following rules: have your planner and equipment with you wear full school uniform smartly eat or drink only in the right places at the right times be on time to your lesson behave very well outside of lessons If you get 5 “infringement” signatures HORIZONTALLY you go onto Amber card and will be given a 20-30 minute lunchtime community service task to perform. If you then fill up your Amber card, you will be given a Red Card and a one-hour after-school detention. After that, every time you fill up a card you will receive a one-hour after-school detention.

FAQ #1: What happens if I lose my card – or leave it at home? If you lose your card you must let your form tutor know. Your form tutor will tell your House. You will be issued with an AMBER Conduct & Reward card. You will also have to do a lunchtime community service. FAQ #2: What happens if I fill up a line of my uniform and conduct card? When you are given your 5 th conduct infringement, the teacher issuing it will give the card to your house manager. Your house manager will issue you with a new card and arrange a sanction. The sanction will be either a lunchtime community service or after-school detention.

FAQ #3: What is “community service”? Community Service is 20-30 minutes at lunchtime helping out around the school. It could be activities such as assisting in the Canteen, helping a teacher move things, tidying up or picking up litter. FAQ #4: What happens if I forget or don’t turn up to “community service”? If you don’t turn up – or turn up too late – you will be issued with a one hour after-school detention.

FAQ #5: What happens if I don’t turn up to an after-school detention? If you don’t turn up to an after-school detention, you will be placed in a longer detention run by the school’s senior leadership team. If you decide not to attend that detention you will spend a day in Referral plus complete the detention as well. FAQ #6: What happens if I refuse to give a teacher my card? The teacher will report you to your house manager. It is dealt with as a “lost” card and you will have to do either community service or a detention.

FAQ #7: What happens if I fill up a line of “Rewards & Recognition”? The teacher giving you your 5 th “R&R” will give your card to your house manager. They will issue you with a new card. If you are on a green card you will get a blank green card. If you are on an amber card you will get a blank amber card. It also clears any infringements you have. You will also receive five merits. FAQ #8: Aren’t “R&R” cards entered for some sort of prize draw? Yes, at the end of each term all “R&R” cards are entered into a big prize draw. Students who have not had any infringements and have a blank Uniform & Conduct card get double-entered for the prize. It’s a big prize!

FAQ #9: I’ve found some blank green cards and think I might use them so I don’t get a detention! Don’t! If you find any blank cards, give them to your house manager or form tutor. It is a serious offence to use any card other than the one given to you by your form tutor or house manager. FAQ #10: I could forge some “R&R” – to make it look like I’ve been really good. Don’t! You’ll get caught out when checks are done and any cheating is a serious offence. You will certainly get an after-school detention at the very least.

FAQ #11: I’ve been given an “infringement” for wearing trainers in the corridor. I’ve just come off the field at lunch after playing football. I was going to change them when I get to lesson. Change into your trainers only on the field. If you have trainers on anywhere in the school you will get an “infringement”. When you finish your game put your shoes on. Shoes must be worn in the Canteen at lunchtime. Don’t come into the Canteen with trainers on – even if you’re off to play football.

FAQ #12: It’s so unfair! I was wearing a hoodie on the field and got an infringement. My friend was wearing a cardigan and trainers. We were on the field, not in school. Stay in uniform. We don’t allow hoodies and cardigans in school at all! That includes the field. You can only wear trainers if you are taking part in a sports activity on the field. Trainers are not to be worn for fashion statements in school.

FAQ #13: I left my pencil case at home. Will I get an “infringement” every lesson I go to today? That seems unfair. Tell your form tutor first thing in the morning if you don’t have all your equipment. They will give you an “infringement” and should be able to provide you with a pen and day planner sheet. You then need to show every teacher your form tutor’s signature on your uniform & conduct card at the start of each lesson. If you don’t show your subject teacher first, then they are well within their rights to give you another “infringement”. (You should have the pen your form tutor gave you, anyhow.)

FAQ #14: Who came up with the idea of this card? Lots of very successful schools use cards like this to make sure that students look smart and have equipment. We’ve changed it so we include rewards as well. Which we think makes it fairer. FAQ #15: What happens next term? Do we keep the same cards? No. At the end of this term your form tutor will collect in all cards. You will get a new one next term. And the term after that. And the term after that….
