2 Washington D.C. - A dog, who lost her leg when an IED detonated underneath her, received a medal for courage on Tuesday. Lucca, a 12-year-old German shepherd, served two tours with the U.S. Marine Corps. She successfully completed 400 missions and protected the lives of thousands of troops during her six years of service. During her final mission on March 23, 2012, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, an IED blew up underneath Lucca while she was on patrol. Her handler, Cpl. Juan Rodriguez, recounted the explosion. "The explosion was huge and I immediately feared the worst for Lucca," Rodriguez said. "I ran to her and saw her struggling to get up. I picked her up and ran to the shelter of a nearby tree line; applied a tourniquet to her injured leg and called the medics to collect us.” Lucca survived the bombing, but she lost her front leg. Now four years later, she has been given the PDSA Dickin Medal, the animal equivalent of the United Kingdom's Victoria Cross. This is the highest honor animals can receive for their military service, and Lucca is the first U.S. Marine Corps dog to receive the medal. Lucca is retired and lives with Gunnery Sgt. Chris Willingham and his family in California.

3 In Other News  Nike has unveiled its long-awaited sneaker with self-tying "adaptive" laces. It's called the HyperAdapt 1.0, and Nike CEO Mark Parker introduced it at the Nike Innovation 2016 event in New York City this week. How does a sneaker tie itself? When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it's perfect. The technology has been in the works since 2013, and it's based on what went into the Nike MAG -- a replica of Marty McFly's self-lacing sneakers in "Back to the Future" that Nike made last year. The HyperAdapt 1.0 will be available in three colors to Nike+ members this holiday season.  Ten young children sit around a table as Lila Kagedan walks into their synagogue's after-school program. Kagedan introduces herself as the new rabbi at their synagogue. Not one of the elementary-school-aged children seems surprised. But her announcement is surprising -- historic, even: Kagedan, of Mount Freedom Jewish Center, is the first woman to have the title of rabbi serving an Orthodox congregation. The idea of a female rabbi is not accepted by everyone in Orthodox Judaism. The Rabbinical Council of America (RCA), an organization made up of Orthodox rabbis, passed a resolution in October 2015 in response to Kagedan's school, Yeshivat Maharat, ordaining women as rabbis, calling it "a violation of our mesorah [tradition]" and saying the school's decision to do so was "a path that contradicts the norms of our community."
