3 Complete the crime questionnaire. It is based on the annual crime survey year ending 2014. Good luck!

4 The answers: 1.In the last 10 years crime rates have fallen dramatically. 2.Violent crime is roughly 3% of all crime. 3.House burglaries have decreased dramatically. 4.Car crime has decreased dramatically. 5.Knife crime has fallen. 6.In 2014 murder was at its lowest rate for 37 years. 7.Drug crime including smuggling / dealing and possession of fell in 2014. 8.Men are much more likely to be attacked by a stranger than women. 9.Men under the ages of 29 much more likely to be mugged than any other group.

8 We often think that crime is worse than it is because we are influenced by certain factors. For example: The media Attitudes / values / beliefs

9 In our thousand year study of crime and punishment factors are hugely important in explaining when and why things changed or stayed the same. There are 8 important factors that affect what happens in the history of crime and punishment for over a thousand years so it is worth remembering them!

11 Let’s start thinking about how these factors are influential by looking at the history of capital punishments (executions). But before we do, how much can you remember about the chronology of the course?
