2 Scientific Name Pandas scientific name is aluropoda melanoleuca. 1.The giant panda, also known as panda bear or simply panda, is a bear native to south central China. 2.It is easily recognized by the large, distinctive black patches around its eyes, over the ears, and across its round body.

3 Life Span Pandas can live up to 20 years. 1.Giant pandas live between 14 and 20 years in the wild and up to 35 years in captivity. 2.Conservation and preservation efforts are in place to protect this extremely endangered species from extinction.

4 Size of Pandas Pandas are up to 2-3 feet tall. 1.About the size of an American black bear, giant pandas stand between two and three feet tall at the shoulder (on all four legs). 2.They can become four to six feet long.

5 Panda’s Weight Female pandas are around 150-280 pounds. 1.Females rarely reach 220 pounds. Males weight up to 175-250 1.Males are larger than females, weighing up to 250 pounds in the wild.

7 Behavior They primarily spend their life roaming around. 1.Pandas are terrestrial animals and live on trees. 2.They feed and live in the bamboo forests.

8 Diet Pandas diet in the wild is 99 percent bamboo. Pandas in the zoo eat the following: 1.Bamboo 2.Sugar crane 3.Rice gruel 4.Special high-fiber biscuit 5.Carrots 6.Apples 7.Sweet potatoes.

9 Is It Endangered? Giant pandas are currently classified on IUCN's Red List as an endangered species. 1.One the main reasons that pandas have become endangered is habitat destruction. 2.As the population in China continues to grow, pandas' habitat gets taken over by development, pushing them into smaller and less livable areas.
