1 Saddleback College “Level Up” Basic Skills and Student Outcomes Transformation Grant Institutional Effectiveness Participation Initiative State Chancellor’s Office

2 What the Level Up Grant Will Do: Enhance several identified, existing College effective practices Use professional development to create awareness and practice of these strategies and perspectives Encourage a campus culture that supports basic skills success across the College, both in the classroom and in student support areas

3 What the Level Up Grant Will Do: Build on existing District technology to create a new Class Schedule tool that provides first-time, fully matriculated students with a proposed schedule of classes that takes into account the student’s matriculation results, high school transcripts, any completed Saddleback course work, and the student’s primary MAP or academic plan

7 The Grant Addresses Four Objectives Adopt the Common Assessment Initiative (CAI) as well as Multiple Measures Assessment indicators when evaluating and placing students in college level courses Increase the placement of students directly in gateway English and Mathematics courses, transferable to UC or CSU, with remedial instruction as appropriate for underrepresented students

8 The Grant Addresses Four Objectives Contextualize remedial instruction in foundational skills that align with academic and career pathways, including the industry cluster Provide proactive student support that is integrated with instruction

9 Six Grant Positions The grant creates six positions to support the grant and its work: Project Director (K.O.) Grant Project Manager (full-time classified) Program Specialist (part-time, 20 hours per week)

10 Six Grant Positions The grant creates six positions to support the grant and its work: Program Assistant (part-time, 20 hours per week) Program Research Analyst (part-time, 20 hours per week) Technology Consultant

11 The Grant’s Purpose Support existing College initiatives, such as AVID, allowing Saddleback to become a National Demonstration Site Integrate Sherpa software into the Online Class Schedule to create individual student semester schedules that incorporate matriculation recommendations, MAP, and transcript data

12 The Grant’s Purpose Use Adjunct Faculty Coordinators to implement initiatives, including the Six Factors Students Say They Need to Succeed Provide faculty stipends for curriculum design and professional development Expand model of embedded tutors to include counselors and librarians
